Howick Lions donate
four paintings to lodge
Four oil paintings were donated
to Participation Lodge recently by
members of the Howick Township
Lions Club.
• The donation was made by the
service club in memory of Lion Bev
Currah.
A past president who took a keen
interest in the lodge and activities
in his own community, Mr. Currah
initiated construction of the How -
ick Lion's P1 -rand managed it from
1974, when it opened, until 1988.
He also took an active role in the
Lions• Radio Bingo prior to his
death in January 1989 and, in gen-
eral, lived the Lions motto "We
Serve".
Participation "t,odge was estab-
lished in. 1982 to provide accessible
accommodation with support -staff
to help physically disabled individ-
uals experience a degree of inde-
pendence, which most people take
for granted..
Expansion of the lodge will pro -
vide private rooms for physically
disabled residents who make the
lodge their home.. In addition, the
number of short-term visitors will
double, providing many physically
disabled people with an opportuni-
ty to enjoy a vacation at the lake. It
also gives their families a much
needed break from the demands of
providing 24 -hour -a -day care.
The oil paintings will .adorn the
