Madill athletes capture
rneet overall field:4var
F. E. Madill Secondary School
athletes competed in the 37th annu-
al Medway Relays last Thursday at
Arva. Over 24 Southwestern
Ontario teams took part.
Madill athletes won the "over-all
field award", but narrowly missed
the over-all track and field award,
edged out by St. Pat's, of Sarnia in
the final point calculation.
St. Pat's finished with 187 accu-
mulated points, followed closely by.
Madill's 178 and third-place Med-
way's 171.
The results heralded a good
beginning to the Madill track sea-
son.
Individual results are as follows:
MIDGET GIRLS—Shannon
Simpson, high jump, L36 metres,
personal best, ninth; Lynda Hark-
ness, shot put, 10.86m, first, new
record, RB, and discus, 30.58m,
first; Kendra Machan, shot put,
7.88m, P.B., fourth and discus,
2202m, third; Tracey Metez, shot
put, 7.44m, seventh;
OPEN GIRLS—Caroline Ver-
steeg, shot put, first, 10.46m, P.B.
and discus, 23.39; Patti Knight, shot
put, 7.42m;

Madill wins cilainpionship
at annual Blueyale Re4iys
Last Saturday, April 22, members
of the F. E. Madill Track and Field
Club travelled to Kitchener to com-
pete in the Seventh Annual Blue -
vale Rglays.
There was strong competition at
the meet with over 30 schools tak-
ing part. Once again, Madill proved
itself a strength to be reckoned with
in the field, coming away with the
overall field championship for the
third year in a row.
Madill athletes also accumulated
more points on the track than ever
before. record.

The highlight of the day was Ken
MacDonald's discus throw 39.60
metres with which he set a new
meet record and defeated 38 other
competitors to win the gold.
-Madill also stoocTtrue to tradition
in the pole vault, Whining" gold in
both events — Mike Cardy in the
open boys' and Mike MacKay in
the Midget boys'.
The team now turns its attention
to the Forest City Meet Saturday at
London.

The last day for both adult and
parent and tot skating will be April
27.
The ice will be coming out on
April 28.
The Wingham Figure Skating
Club will have a power -skating
school during September and Octo-
ber after school. Exact times are to
be announced.
Have a good summer.
SPORTSMEN'S
A large crowd turned out for -the
weekly horseshoes last Thursday
evening at the Wingham Sports-
men's Club.
Single -round games of 30 points
were played on the 'A' side, cap-
tured by Syd Lawson and Jack Hig-
gins, four wins and a plus of 29. In
second place were Harold Carter
and Eugene Kuntz, four wins and a
plus of 21.
Alex Boa and Lorne Kuntz were
third, three wins and a plus of 49,
while Ivan Lardner and Bruce
Ortlieb were fourth, three wins and
a plus of 45.
hi fifth place were Dave Ablett
and- Glen Casemore, one win and a
plug of. 71 and rounding out the 'A'
side storing were Leon Russell and
Lorne Hamilton, no wins. and a
plus of 106.
On the '1311 side; single -round, 21 -
point games,were played. North
Elliott and Murray MacPailign4
