Fox Commanding officer of the regional Cadet detachment at Canaclia Forces Base, London, ended hi address to approximately 300 ai cadets assembled at the base' Beaver Hall indoor parade square on April 9. The cadets of Wingham's 543 Squadron could not have agreed more with Capt. Fox's observation, They had been participating in the inter -squadron Silver Wing compe- tition the entire day. The local cadets distinguished themselves in events involving drill team skills, volleyball, basketball, swimming, tug-of-war, and a mys- tery run. Pitted against cadets from 17 Southern Ontario squadrons, the Wingham team members per- formed magnificently in all activi- ties. The squadron emerged victori- ous by capturing first place in the small squadron category Of the many events, the drill team competition and the tug-of- war contest were especially memo- rable. Under the command of Warrant Officer First -Class Marjorie Camp- bell, 543 Squadron's drill team demonstrated its best showing ever. The cadets° uniforms were impec- cable, the leaders' commands crisp and clear and the team executed the compulsory maneuvres almost flawlessly. The team members were aware that a berth in the all -Ontario drill finals was close at hand. The Wing - ham cadets were prevented from reaching their objective, however, being edged out by -a 4,onclon squadron by the smalleA otaf gins. Despite their second -place stand- ing, all members of the team are to be congratulated on a job excep- tionally well done. Bravo, drill team!In the tug-of-war contest, the city squadrons proved no match for the Wingham tem Many cadets Of 544 a Squadron are- familiar with forth - related activities. It is with deep sorrow that the officers and cadets learned of the passing of Dick Reece on Sunday, April 9.
