aged to down Bayfield 2-1 at last
weekend's Huron -Perth Tier 11
hockey tournament at Clinton.
However, the locals eventually ran
out of steam, losing to Huron Park
and Clinton.
,In .their first game against Huron
Park;Tom Pfeiffer played well in
the Belgrave net, but the team just
couldn't manage to get on the
scoreboard, losing 2-0.
Both teams played hard in the
second match -up, this time against
Bayfield. Ryan Cook and Wayne
Fenton scored in the 2-1 Belgrave
win, Fenton's goal coming into the
empty net in overtime.
Peter Irwin and David Piluke
added assists.
The team just could not keep the
winning streak alive, losing the
next game 4-0 to the host Clinton
club.
Jason Curtis played in net for the

Howick Midget team is»
semi-finalist at Hanover
If you can't score, you can't win
and that sums up the first game the
Howick Midgets played in the 4th
Annual Hanover Midget hockey
tournament on April Fool's week-
end.
The Howie* squad faced the host
Hanover team on Friday evening.
Although the team played well,
Hanover managed to score two
goals including one on the power
play to defeat Howick 2-0.
Both goaltenders, Peter Stewart
of Howick and Shawn Hagan
played extremely well for their
teams. Both the first and third peri-
ods were scoreless.
Hanover did all the damage in
the middle frame.
Jeremy Burgess put a dribbler by
Peter Stewart with only three sec-
onds left in a Hnover power play.
The puck just managed to cross the
goal line inches away from Stew-
art's outstretched glove hand.
The second goal by Mike Leith
came with only 53 seconds left in
the period. Howick was caught
with both defensemen deep in the
Hanover zone.
The loss puts Howick in a deep
hole. Howick is in a group with
Hanover, Elmvale and North Lon-
don. The top two teams continue to
advance in the tournament, with the
bottom two being eliminated.
Congratulations Jaret Henhoeffer
on being awarded Howick's MVP
for the game.
GAME 2
Howick 2, Elmvale 1
Howick was forced to win the
remaining two games in their diyi-

Day. The game turned out to be a
barn burner as both teams, needed a
win.
Once again goaltending dominat-
ed this game. Peter Stewart of
Howick and Craig Cochrane for
Elmvale were, outstanding. The

scored on the power play by Ho
ick's Jason Jacobson with 1:4
remaining.
The Livermore brothers, Donal
and Philip, initiated a pass to Jacob
son at the point and his low slap
shot found the corner of the cage.
Each team scored in the middl
frame. A power play goal by Sco
Aicker with 1:57 left in the perio
tied the score at one apiece. Only 26
seconds later the MacGregor broth
ers, Jeff and Steven, led a rush th
length of the ice and resulted wit
Jeff giving Todd Templeman a per-
fect
er
fect pass in the slot for the goal.
This proved to be the winnin
goal as neither team could put
puck by the goalies in the thir
period.
The result was a hard earned 2-
victory
The four Howick defensemen
Craig King, Rod Mann, Jeff Mac
Gregor and Jacobson played grea
defensively in front of Stewart.
The four were also very strong
when Howick was playing short
handed. Congratulations to goalie
Peter Stewart for being named the
MVP of the game.
GAME 3
Howick 10, North London 0
If one compares scores with what
a team does with other teams in
their division, this game should
have been a close contest. The very
opposite occurred.
The biggest reason for the lopsid-
ed score was the result of North
London taking 15 minor penalties
and a game misconduct.
The Howick team responded to
alt'thgSe;ngiesin, a psi
o#ive way`
by scoring five power play goals.
Howick led 3-0 after one period
of play. Philip Livermore led the
attack . with two power play goals.
Jaret Henhoeffer scored the third
goal. Assists in the period went to
Donald Livermore, Rod Mann and
Henhoeffer.
Donald Livermore scored the
only goal of the second. period
when Howick held a man advan-
tage. Henhoeffer and Jason Jacob-
son set up the goal.
The Howick squad exploded for
six unanswered third period goals.
Henhoeffer scored two goals to
give him a hat -trick. Single tallies
went to Andrew Weber, Craig King,
Todd Templeman and Jason. Jacob-
son.
King and Henhoeffer scored
power play goals. Templeman and
Jacobson scored into an empty net!
This was not an April Fool joke
either. London pulled their goalie
to try and prevent a shutout, but.it
backfired.
Assists on Howick's third period
goals went to Jacobson, Temple-
man, John Greig, Chris Reichard
and Donald Livermore. Peter Stew-
art and Mark Fraser shared the
shutout.
With the two wins Howick
advanced out of the round-robin
division along with Hanover who
won all three games played.
An obstacle the Howick team
must overcome is the game miscon-
duct to defensernan Jeff MacGregor
for fighting in the last minute of
play. The rules for the tournament
prevent a player from further par-
ticipation.
GAME 4
Howick 2, Six Nations 1
-In game four Howick met Six
Nations who were winners of the
"B" division at 8:00 a.m. in the
morning. It turned out to be a fast -
paced game.
The teams each scored a goal in
the first frame at the five minute

d Donald Livermore also drew an
- assist. Pete Skye tied the contest
- less than one minute later.
The teams skated through the
e second period without scoring a
tt goal.
d With the teams playing four -on -
four early in the third period. Philip
- Livermore took a perfect two -on-
e one pass from Henhoeffer to beat
h Doyle Bomnberry clearly in the Six
- Nation's net.
Livermore's goal turned out to be
g the winning goal. Peter Stewart and
a Bomberry were both sharp in net
d for their respective teams. Howick
once again advanced with the
1 marginal 2-1 win.
The MVP for Howick in this
game went to captain Rodney
Mann.
t Howick was dealt another severe
blow in the contest when the . team
lost the services of Jason Jacobson
- for the rest of the tournament.
Jacobson received a severe cut on
the end of his finger and received -
medical attention at the -Hanover
hospital.
GAME 5
Howick 4 Port Elgin 0
Howick met the winner of "C"
and "D" . divisions at 12:00 noon on
Sunday. Their opposition was Port
Elgin. The game was roughly
played and turned ugly late in the
third period with some unneces-
sary tactics being employed by the
Port Elgin team.
Howick continued to play as a
feani "moving the -IAA -very well
offensively and playing.a systemat-
ic backchecking game. Chris
Reichard and Todd Templeman
were moved back to play defense
for the holes left • by Jacobson and
Jeff MacGregor who were missing
from the line-up.
The lone goal of the first period
was scored by Howick's Jaret Hen-
hoefferfter
a only 1Y 21
seconds
had
elapsed. Henhoeffer tipped in Don-
ald Livermore's low drive from just
inside the blue line.
The lead was increased to 2-0
after two periods when Jason Car-
riere scored after fine passes from
Henhoeffer and Rod Mann. Each
team had a player in the penalty
box at the time.
Howick scored two quick power
play goals in the third period.
Philip Livermore pulled the trigger
on a three-way passing play with
brother Donald and Henhoeffer. A
hard drive by Chris Reicha?P from
the point increased the lead to 4-0.
Craig King and Carriere assisted.
With four minutes left in the
game the contest turned ugly with
many penalties being handed out to
Port Elgin for being overly.aggres-
sive. The worst check was on Jason
Carriere when he was hit across the
bridge of the nose and had to be
taken to the hospital for treatment.
The referee called a halt to the game
with three minutes left thus giving
Howick a 4-0 win.
The shutout was recorded bu
Peter Stewart and well-deserved.
Jason Carriere was voted the MVP
award.
GAME 6
Hanover 5, Howick 3
A tired but determined Howick
team battled Hanover to the very
end in the championship game.
It so happened the two squads
that opened the tournament were
to meet in the championship game
after 60 games were played in the
tournament. Howick was playing
their third game of the day while
