Mrs, Margaret Carson and Mrs. Peggy Orvine and Meagan of Brockville visited friends in the vil- lage over the weekend and attend- ed the shower for Sandra Carson in the United Church hall on Sunday afternoon, Recent weekend visitors with Bob and Marie Strong were Brian, Jill and Kent Welsh of Petersburg. Congratulations to Don and Joyce Adams, Bob and Marie Strong who won the nine o'clock draw and the Dickson Decorating Trophy at the Palmerston bonspiel on Saturday. Mr. and Mrs. James Alcorn spent a few days in London where she had eye surgery at St. Joseph's Hos- pital. Mr. and Mrs. Murray Hayden spent the weekend with Carol Mar- cel of Chatham. Doug Mann underwent an appendectomy in Listowel Memori- al Hospital on Tuesday evening. Mr. and Mrs. George Keil have returned from Bonita Springs, Flori- da, where they spent the winter. Mr, and Mrs. Herman Van Pelt have arrived home after spending a few months in Florida, Mr. and Mrs. William Mitchell of Molesworth visited Tuesday with Mr. and Mrs. George Brown. Mr. and Mrs. Douglas Alcorn of London spent last week at the home of Mr. and Mrs. James Alcorn. Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Faust arrived home Tuesday from a holiday in Florida. They also visited relatives in Tennessee. The Gorrie Senior Citizens were guests of the Wroxeter seniors on Wednesday afternoon and enjoyed Mr. and Mrs. Maurice Audet of Sandra Carson is honored at bridal shower GORRIE—Relatives and friends gathered Sunday afternoon in the United Church hall which was dec- orated in pink and mauve for a miscellaneous shower for Sandra Carson of Toronto, formerly of Gor- rie. Mrs. Eleanore Gibson, Wroxeter and Mrs. Karen MacTavish, Hanover, were co -hostesses. Corsages were presented to the bride -elect, her mother, Mrs. Reta Carson of Kitchener and her grand- mother, Mrs. Agnes Timm of Lis- towel. Sandra expressed her thanks for the lovely gifts and appreciated the shower being held in her former church. Her wedding will be in Cal- vary United Church, Kitchener, on April 15. Friends honor anniversary pair CORRIE—Mr. and Mrs. William Thornton were pleasantly surprised when their friends and neighbors gathered on the occasion of their 40th wedding anniversary on March 26. Mr. and Mrs. Brock Rideout of Scarborough and Jim Elliott of Yokoma, Washington, visited Fri- day with Mrs. Alex Taylor. Mr. and Mrs. William G. Taylor were guests of Mr, and Mrs. Harry Tyas of Waterdown and were also at Guelph and Milton over the weekend. Mr. and Mrs. Kevin Stuart of Base Borden were guests at the home of Mrs. Stuart's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Edgar Dane, The Gorrie United Church choir surprised Mrs. Velma Mann at the Sunday morning service by singing a medley of hymns in recognition of her many years of service as organist. Jim Schefter presented her with a red rose. Speakers take seniors on enjoyable China trip WROXETER—Master of cere- monies John Brent introduced guests, Mr. and Mrs. Maurice Audet of Palmerston when the Wroxeter Senior Citizens were joined by the seniors from Gorrie to enjoy a trip to China. In 1985, the Audets travelled with a group to China and they showed how life really is iri the "small,communities and cities. There is such a contrast everywhere — modern buses, carts and many bicycles,' all on the same street; tem- ples and beautiful parks, sharing the neighborhood with shacks. Mr. Audet had taught in China and enjoyed going back to renew his interest in a fascinating country. The seniors enjoyed the trip and •rg tev the Audets were thanked. Mrs. Mildred Coupland wel- comed everyone and the seniors enjoyed a potluck dinner. Mrs. Eleanore Gibson brought spring greetings in the form of a white rab- bit cake which everyone enjoyed. Mr. Brent opened the meeting with "0 Canada" and Mr. and Mrs. Art Gibson entertained with lively singsong music and Don Messer reminiscing. The minutes of the last meeting were read by Mrs. Eileen F1,amilton and the treasurer's report was given by Ted Smith. Eileen read a poem by the late Harvey Sparling entitled "What Would Grandma Do?" Mr. and Mrs. Claude Labrie attended a wedding in Welland on Friday. Several of this community attended Seniors' Day at the Bel - more Maple Syrup Festival on Thursday. t,„) The new homes for Mr. and Mrs. Chris Sturgeon and Mr. and Mrs. Bill Hart have been started and oth- ers are to be commenced soon. Jack Phibbs, Hagersville, Kim and Rick Mohlman of Kitchener, were Sunday guests with Mr. and Mrs. Claude Labrie and family for the occasion of Shantelle Labrie's second birthday. Mr. and Mrs. Stewart Musgrove have moved to their new home in Brussels and while Wroxeter friends are sorry to see them leave, they wish them all the best in their retirement. Mrs. Art Gibson and daughter Marcia of London have returned from an enjoyable trip to British Columbia. Mrs. Gibson stayed with Mr. and Mrs. Bill Gibson in Vancou- ver and visited other relatives%nd friends. Marcia attended a friend's wedding at Port Alberni. They enjoyed visiting the new Eaton's Centre in Metrotown (opened Mar. 15), the Bloedel Conservatory at Queen Elizabeth Park and the Orpheum, riding the sky train and sea bus and shopping at Granville Island. Kim and Kevin Baum drove them to Abbotsford and then to the Vancouver International Airport for the flight back on Friday. Usually at this time of year, the blossoms and bulbs are in full bloom but the spring season is from four to six weeks behind. Sixteen tables at WI party FORDWICH—Sixteen tables of cards were in play at the Institute card party in the Fordwich Hall on Friday night. Winners for high scores were Pam Gordon and Leonard Whet - tam. Consolation winners were Edna Doig and Mac Davidson and special prizes went to Mary Kelley and Mildred Hamilton. The next card party will be Fri- day, April 14, sponsored by the senior citizens. Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Beecroft vis- ited Sunday with Mr. and Mrs. Kirk Beecroft and family, Exeter. On Tuesday they visited with Mr. and Mrs. Stewart Forsyth of Walkerton. Whitechurch Women's Institute members are reminded of the annu- al meeting Wednesday, April 12, at 12 noon, with a potluck luncheon in the hall.
