Page 12B - The Wingham Advance -Tinges, April 4,1989 O ar Haselgrove dies at the age of 90 years A longtime resident of the town of Wingham, Omar Frederick Haselgrove, passed away Thursday, March- 30, at Cambridge Country Manor, Cambridge. He was 90 years of age and death followed a brief illness. Mr. Flaselgmve was born in Lon- don on July 26, 1898 and was edu- cated in the Forest City. When he was growing up, he played ball with Guy Lombardo and his broth- ers in London; his name is men- tioned twice in a book of the Lom- bardos' life. He also delivered papers to a ballplayer -catcher in the big leagues, Mooney Gibson. He worked as a cigar maker, as a coil winder with Ford Motor Co. in Detroit and as a truck driver. He came to Wingham in 1933 and until 1974, owned and operated a pool- room and tobacco store. Mr. Haselgrove was active in many organizations in town. He was a member of the Wingham Golf and Curling Club for many years and belonged to bowling clubs, the Lions Club, Masonic Lodge and Bridge Club. He was also a member of the Wingham United Church. W On Sept. 21, 1929, he married the former Reta Goodyear in London. She predeceased him in 1983. He is survived 11y one daughter and s�an- in-law, Claudia and Peter Pflug of Waterloo; one daughter-in-law,. Marjorie Haselgrove of Wingham; two grandchildren, Bruce and Barb; one great-grandson, Brent and one sister, Annie Rogers of Komoka. He was predeceased by his son, Wal- lace, in 1983, by one grandson and by his sister, Claudia. Funeral service was held Satur- day at 1:30 at The McBurney Funer- al Home, Wingham, Rev, J. Rea Grant officiating. Final resting place is Wingham Cemetery. Mrs. A. Caskanette dies following lengthy illness A lengthy illness ended Monday, March 27, when Mrs. Agnes Cecelia Caskanette of 161 Victoria Street, Wingham, was granted release at Wingham and District Hospital. She was in her 74th year. The former Agnes Lippert, Mrs. Caskanette was born March 13, 1916, in Riversdale, daughter of the late Adam Lippert and Vera Cas- sidy. She received her education in Riversdale and during her early life worked at the Queen's Hotel in Wingham. On Oct. 3, 1939, she married Frank Caskanette in St. Anne's Roman Catholic Church, Rivers - dale. They came to Wmgham where together they operated a Supertest service station for 20 years. She later worked in the Wallpaper Shop, before retiring to their home on Victoria Street. Mr, Caskanette died in 1975. Mrs. Caskanette was a member of Sacred Heart Church and the CWL. She enjoyed playing cards, knitting and sewing. Left :to mourn her death are her family:. Frances and Jim Shaw of Bluevale, Don and Dianne Caskanette of Guelph, Wil- fred and Sandy Caskanette of Cold Lake, Alberta. There are eight grandchildren; three great-grand- children; five sisters, Lillie Schen- kle, Madeline Schefter and Mrs. John (Marjorie) .Rettinger, all of Walkerton, Florence Borho of Teeswater and Mrs. Harold (Louise) Schiestel, RR 2, Wingham and one brother, Joe Lippert of Barrie. Rev Stan Soltysik conducted funeral service at 11 a.m. on Thurs- day at Sacred Heart Roman Catholic Church. Interment fol- lowed in Sacred Heart Cemetery, Wingham. The McBurney Funeral Home, Wingham, was entrusted with arrangements. Pallbearers were Don Caskanette, Wilfred Caskanette, Jim Shaw, Paul Shaw, Barry Shaw and Kevin Carter. Floral tributes were carried by Michele and Denise Caskanette. Service held March 28 for Mrs. Jean Lincoln Funeral service was held Tues- day, March 28, at 1:30 for Mrs. Jean Lincoln of Victoria Street, Wing - ham. Rev J. Rea Grant of the Wing - ham United Church, where Mrs. Lincoln was a member, officiated at the service at The McBurney Funer- al uneral Home. Her final resting place will be Gorrie Cemetery. Pallbearers were Floyd Paisley, Ron Paisley, Hank Bos, Otto Shep- herd, Bill Brown and Maurice Ban- nerman Flower bearers were Stephen Davis and Paul Duh. Mrs. Lincoln died Saturday, March 25, at Wmgham and District Hospital in her 77th year. The for- mer Jean Sloan Paisley was born in Kilmaronock, Scotland, on Dec. 14, 1912, a daughter of the late James Paisley and Jeannie Sloan. She was educated in Scotland and came to this n-yeung- s-a woman, liv- ing in the Moorefield area. She mar- ried David Allister Lincoln on Sept. 8, 1937, and he predeceased her in January of 1984. Mrs. Lincoln is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, David E. and Lynn Lincoln of Stratford; her grandchildren, Kimberley and Stephen Davis, Deborah, Karen and Jeffery Lincoln and one brother, James Paisley of Thedford. Hector Purdon was native of the Whitechurch area A native of Whitechurch, born there on July 8, 1916, Hector Don- ald Purdon of Strathroy died in Strathroy-Middlesex General Hos- pital on Tuesday, March 28. The son of the late Alexander Purdon and Christina MacKay, he worked as a baker during his early life, then was a real estate broker from 1953 until his retirement in 1982. He served overseas during World War Two, from 1942 until 1945. Mr. Purdon was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion and the Mocha Shriners. He is survived by his wife, the former Hazel House, whom he married in Toronto in 1942, and was the dear father of June and Bev Bosveld of London, Cheryl and Charles Harnett of Strathroy, Sylvia and Randy Grey of Niagara Falls and Ray Purdon, Deaths HAYES®Dorothy Hayes (Bry- dges), ,83, of Elyria, Ohio, died Thursday, March 16, after a short illness. She was born in Belgrave and had lived in Elyria 50 years. She was a member of St. Andrew's Episcopal Church, Elyria and a 50 - year member of the Elyria chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star. She was also a Navy Mother. Mrs. Hayes is survived by a daughter, Mrs. Joseph (Karen) Ramirez of Elyria; a son, William Hayes; 19 grandchildren; nine great-grand- children and one sister, Margaret Dunbar of Belgrave. She was prede- ceased by her husband, Louis (1984); a son, Thomas, in 1985 and a daughter. lean Van Camp, in 19:=. WOODWARD—Passed away in Stratford General Hospital on Fri- day, March 24, May L Woodward, in her 72nd -year. She was the beloved wife of Bill Woodward; dear mother of Bill and his wife, Lynda, of London and Janis and her husband, Tom Creeden of Wing - ham; loved grandmother of Kelly and Mark Woodward and Chad and Jeremy Creeden. Pallbearers were Angus Falconer, Athol Purdon, Hugh McMillan, Charles Harnett, Bev Bosvedd and Randy Grey. Three grandchildren, Michael and Kristine Bosveld and Keri Grey, were flower bearers.
