Young skaters take part in
'Shorty' Brooks competition
Young skaters at the Wingham
Figure Skating Club took part in the
annual Shorty Brooks Competition
last Wednesday.
• The competition is held each year
in honor of the man who gave so
much of his time and energy to the
club, Harold "Shorty' Brooks. The
wooden, skate -shaped trophies
were made by Mr. Brooks before his
death in 1983.
Mandy Anger captured first
place, Lisa Inwood was second and
Elizabeth Black, third.
Other competitors included: Jen-
nifer Bushell, Bethany Lindsay,
Chelta Vair, Melanie and Lee Anne
Carter, Ginny and Todd Schenk,
Shannon Thompson, Sarah and
Laura O'Hagan, Chrissy Kern Dana
Davies, Lauren Walker, Amanda
McClory, Tanya Fitzgerald, Kelly
Alexander and Robin Hoggarth.

Mary Ross rolled the high single
of 209 and Reta Ross had the high
triple of 566 for the ladies. Daryl
Walker took top honors for the men
with the 292 high single and a 627
high triple.
Other good games were rolled by
Hugh Mundell 246; Judy Lappage
207; Reta Ross 205; Donna Craig
204 and Don Fitzgerald 203.
WROXETER-GORRIE MIXED
Heinz Daub had the men's high
single of 266 and the high triple of
649, while Lorna McArthur took
top honors for the ladies with a 332
high single and a superb high triple
of 800.
Other good games were bowled
by Bonnie Brewer 234; Agnes Hass-
noot 200; Jim Seip 220; Tom Pilings
203 and Bob Allen 238.
WED. NIGHT LADIES
Barb's Beatles lead the league
with 36 points, followed by Deb-
bie's Dirty Dancers, 31, Susan's
Supremes, 30, Sheri's Sherills, 19,
Ariene's Alabamas, 17 and June's
Tunes, 14.
Sheri Horton rolled the high sin-
gle of 269 and Linda Walden had
the high triple of 633. Other good
games were rolled by June Lowry
229;joyce Cranston 226; Tammy
Cleghorn 217; Kay McCormick 212
and Deb Steffler 205.
LEGION MIXED
After the first week, of playoffs,
the standings are: Betty's Bluejays,
2,931 pinfall points; Graham's
Crackers, 2,877; Willis' Wimpies,
2,793; Helen's Tigercats, 2,700;
Marg's Bombers, 2,646 and Don's
Dummies, 2,308.
Clarence Ohm had the men's
high single of 212 and Wayne Irvine
rolled the high triple of 582.
Betty Burley had the ladies' high
single of 275 and Gale McKay had
the high triple of 575.

Newsboys are
WIHL champs
Led by the strong goaltending of
Paul Hefter, the Advance -Times
Newsboys downed the Bridge
Motors Mustangs 7-2 last Thursday
evening to capture the Wingham
Industrial Hockey League champi-
onship.
Marksmen for the Newsboys
were Steve Skinn, Terry,Walker and
Mike Stewart with a pair each,
while Dale Hussey added a single.
Replying for the Mustangs were
Wayne Phibbs and Bob Alton.
Belgrave lads
down Lucknow
The Belgrave PeeWees downed
the Lucknow 'B' squad 10-1 recent-
ly in an exhibition match played at
Blyth.
John Feely scored an unassisted
goal to put Lucknow ahead 1-0
before Belgrave replied with a goal
of its own to end the first period in
a 14 deadlock.
Belgrave scorers added four
more in the middle frame and five
more in the third for the 10-1 final.
Mark Robinson paced the Bel -
grave attack with four goals and
three assists. Brad Robinson had a
goal and two assists; Doug Wilson,
two goals and an assist; Brandon
Coultes, a goal and an assist; Mark
Olson and Tim Coultes each had a
goal and Peter Gusso and Lyle
Moran rounded on the points
parade with one assist each.

HORSESHOES
The Wingham Sportsmen's Club
held its weekly competition last
Thursday night.
Harold Carter and Glen Case -
more took top honors on the 'A'
with five wins and a plus of 26,
while Syd Lawson and Elmer
McFarlan were second, three wins
and a plus of 39.
In third place were Keith Moffatt
and Leon Russell, two wins and a
plus of 70. Ivan Gardner and Jack
Higgins were fourth with two wins
and a phis of 67.
on the 'B' side, Bob Gavreluk
and Kevin Scott had a superb night,
recording six wins.
Norm Elliott and Murray Mac-
Farlane were second, four wins and
a plsu of 37. Jim Rivett and Jack
Kerr were third with one win and a
plus of 95.
