remaining six season games last
week, four of which were at the
Hanover PeeWee Hockey Tourna-
ment.
The lads took part in the tourna-

April 2.
Wingham was in a three -team
division consisting of Hanover, as
well as a team from Cambridge.
The Legion team lost 3-1 to
Hanover Friday night in Ayton and
defeated Cambridge 9-1 last Satur-
day afternoon to take second place
in its division.
Last Saturday evening, the lads
skated against Orangeville, which
finished first in its division. How-
ever, the Wingham boys managed a
4-2 win to put them up against East
London in a quarter -final' match
which saw the lads go down to
defeat by a 5-0 count.
In the first game against
Hanover, Rob Johnston was great in

offense with only five shots on Matt
Elmslie in net for the lads. Jonathon
Barer earned the hat for being the
most -sportsmanlike player of the
game.
Welch had the goaltender talking
to himself and the fans as he react-
ed to a slapshot that went in off the
crossbar. The goaltender looked to
his .parents, shrugged and said, "I
didn't see that one.'°
In the match against Orangeville,
the lads were on the scoreboard
after eight seconds had elapsed in
the first period and then added
another two minutes later. Wing -
ham led 4-0 before Orangeville
scored its first on the power play.
Brett Sangster was great with
several offensive moves that left the
Orangeville skaters standing still.
Balzer was extremely effective
forechecking and was awarded his
second straight most -sportsmanlike
player of the game hat.
Welch was solid on defense, play-
ing the man effectively. He abso-
lutely over -powered the
Orangeville goalie on a slapshot
from the top of the circle.
In the fourth game, the lads were
matched against East London, a
big, tough and aggressive group of
players. The lads did extremely
well to stay as close as they were.
Tournament scoring summary:
Welch, three goals and three assists;
Balzer, two goals and four assists;
Ryan Leibold, two goals and three
assists; Sangster, four goals; Hunter,
one goal and two assists; Eric
Deyell, one goal and two assists;
Pegg, two assists; Jason Evans, one
goal; Murray MacLeod and Poulin,
one assist.
The boys travelled to Kurtzville
last Wednesday for an exhibition
encounter and fell short by a 6-4
count.
The game produced an excellent
effort by the lads in a losing cause.
Wallace started the scoring with
seven seconds remaining in the first
period. Wingham drew even at the
45 -second mark of the second on a _
tap -in by Welch, assisted by Bart
Cameron.
Sangster netted the next two
goals with Marc Poulin assisting
twice and Shane Pegg adding one
assist to give Wingham a 3-1 lead.
Wallace dented the twine behind
Elmslie in the Wingham net to
draw even by the end of the second
frame. The team came out shooting
in the third, outscoring Wingham
three goals to one. The lads' lone
goal of the period was netted by
Pegg with assists going to Hunter
and Balzer.
Sangster led Wingham's offensive
attack, charging into Wallace terri-
tory time and time again. The
defense skated well and was effec-
tive in the offense, but in so doing
forgot their defensive mode.
Last Thursday night at the Wing -
ham arena, the PeeWees and their
dads mixed it up in a friendly game
of shinny hockey. Depending on
who you talk to, the score was
either tied at 10 goals each or the
lads won 11-10. At any rate, every-
one looked as though they were
having fun.
