ston, pianist, presented a prelude of
sacred numbers.
The service, which was spon-
sored by the United Church
Women, was under the leadership
of Mrs. Mabel Wheeler. Those par-
ticipating were Mrs. Wilma Scott,
Mrs. Sheila Nixon, , Mrs. -Wheeler,
Mrs. Linda Hopper Mrs. Joyce Vin-
cent and Mrs. Wilma Higgins. The
choir chose "He Lives" as its

Procter -and Mrs. Leslie Shaw,
pianist, providing musical accom-
paniment. The large choir sang,
with Mrs. Procter at the piano.
The minister chose scripture pas-
sages from St: Lukes Gospel, chap-
ter 24, as the basis for his message.
He stated that theresponse of the
women at the tomb. and also the
disciples was one of disbelief. The
resurrection message is still unac-
cepted by many and, if the resur-
rection is rejected, so is faith. The
resurrection confirms the validity
and the legitimacy. of Jesus° life. It
speaks in terms of life, not death.

highlight UCW meeting
BELGRAVE--The United Church
Women held their Easter meeting
March 23 in the church schoolroom.
Mrs. Mabel Wheeler spoke about
Easter, reviewing many interesting
facts about the joyous Christian
season. She divided the audience

wins high prize
BELGRAVE -- Mrs. Wilford
Caslick was winner of the high
prize when 13 tables were in play at
the weekly euchre party held in the
WI Hall on March 29. Howard
Walker took the men's high prize.
Low prizes went to Mrs.
Lawrence Taylor and Mel Jacklin;
second high were Mrs. Lloyd
Appleby and Garner Nicholson and
lucky draws were won by Mrs.
Janisa Coultes and Albert Cook.
There will be euchre again on
Wednesday, April 5, starting at 8
p.m. Everyone is welcome:

Easter recollections.
Mrs. Barbara Anderson present-
ed an Easter worship service, assist-
ed by Mrs. Mary Taylor, Miss Annie
Cook, Mrs, Hilda Vincent, Mrs.
Edith Vincent, Mrs. Lorna Cook,
Mrs. Muriel Coultes and Mrs.
Marie McIntosh. Each read a :scrip-
ture lesson telling the events of
Holy Week. Six lit candles were
extinguished one by one as each
scripture was read, then the Christ
candle, a tall white taper, was lit to
symbolize the resurrection morn-
ing. Hymns were sung during the
service.
During the business meeting,
conducted by President Mrs. Wilma
Higgins, it was voted to send $25 to
Huron -Perth Presbytery Camping
Liaison Committee to help carry
out a leadership training event for
this summer's camp staff. It was
decided to again gather articles for
a bale to Goodwill Industries, Lon-
don. Articles are -to be left at Ander-
son's store by April 13.
The budget for 1989, which was.
set at $3,206, was presented by
Dorothy Coultes. A social time was
enjoyed at the close of the meeting.
