The two -game series is sponsored by Branch 180 of the Royal Canadi- an Legion, Wingham. It is an annu- al affair that sparks an on-going rivalry between the two towns for the PeeWee age level. This year's series was a rough one, as Wingham collected a total of 69 minutes in penalties with two players ejected from the second game. Teeswater was assessed 20 minutes. However, pizza and pop at the Legion hall following the second game calms the savage beast in any PeeWee! Wingham goal scorers in the first game, a 4-1 victory for the Legion lads, were Brett Sangster, unassist- ed; Matthew Hunter from Jonathan Lane and Eric Deyell. Lane scored from Deyell and Jason Evans before Ryan Leibold notched Wingham's fourth goal, from Evans and Lane. Teeswater's lone marker was scored late in the third period, unassisted, by Bill Henry. Teeswater s Dave Deyell scored late in the first period_to tie the game at one -all. In the second frame, Wingham added four unanswered goals to take a 5-1 lead. Sangster dented the twine from Shane Peee and Mttrrav MacLeod. Then Poulin scored, unassisted. This was followed by a goal by Bart Cameron, assisted by Jonathon Balzer and Sangster. The next Wingham goal was notched by Pegg from Deyell. The teams traded two goals each in the third period. Teeswater scored to make it 5-2 when Scott Smith drilled one from Zagoroony and Henry Wingham went to seven goals when Hunter scored from MacLeod and Cameron and Sangster from Cameron. Teeswater finished out the scor- ing when Smith netted one from Schumacher. Newsboys lead WIHL playoffs The Advance -Times Newsboys narrowly defeated Bridge Motors 6- 5 in overtime in the first game of their Wingham Industrial Hockey e "IVIvstang; down 5-3 with just one minute and a half left in regulation time, came back to tie the game only to have the New - boys' Greg Walton score the over- time winner with_ a bullet -like wrist shot. Other Newsboys° goal scorers were Mike Stewart with two, Terry Walker, Rick Jacklin and Bra I Moore with singles. Bridge snipers. were Andy Reid with a pair, Wayne Phibbs, Steve MacKay and Stan Stapleton with singles. Game two in the best -of -three series is this Thursday evening at 8:30. Single -round games of 30 points were played on the 'A' side, led by Harold Carter and Bob Gavreluk with six wins. Syd Lawson and Bill Tiffin were second, four wins and a plus of 52, Sandra Rivett and Glen Casemore, third, four wins and a plus of 29 and Keith Moffatt and Lorne Hamilton, fourth, three wins and a plus of 79. In fifth place were Don Saunders and Leon Russell, three wins and a plus of 58, while Jim Rivett and Ivan Gardner were sixth, one win and a plus of 95. Rounding out the 'A' side were Alex. Boa and Murray MacFarlane, no wins and a plus of 88. Single -round games of 30 points also were played on the 'B' side. Duane Rivett and Norm Elliott were first with five wins. Jim Wickens and Bill Campbell were second with four wins and a plus of 25. Jerry Freiburger and Bob Burrogs were third, two wins and a plus of 72, while Glen Sellers and Charles Trapp were fourth with two wins and a plus of 68. Bruce Schell and Sharon Gloor were fifth, one win and a plus of 89 and Bruce C!'asemore and Bobi Schell were sixth with one win and a plus of 69.
