Friday night pitted it against a
strong St. Marys squad. However,
Wingham came away with the 4-0
victory
Chris Cameron opened the scor-
ing late in the first period from
Zack O'Krafka and Jay Leitch. The
1-0 lead held up until late in the
second when Andrew Laing
notched an unassisted marker
The action continued to go end-
to-end, but with St. Marys pressing,
Wingham took advantage of a de-
fensive lapse to notch two third -pe-
riod insurance markers.
Cameron scored his second from
John Skinn and Greg Machan and
Laing fired his second from
Matthew Merkley and Jeff Leitch.
Joel Leitch and Curtis Ritchie
shared the goaltending duties to
preserve the shut.out.
Game two Saturday was another
rematch with the localsfriendly ri-
vals from Brussels. This was the
fourth meeting of the year and all
games had been close.
Brussels jumped into an early 3-0
lead in the first period as the Wing -

Wingham -drew first Wood in. the
third period when Jay Leitch schred
from Jeff Leitch and Merkley.
Campbell again responded with
two of his own to give liensalla 5-4
lead late inihesame.
However, the Wingham boys
weren't done and Winghant'S Jeff
Leitch banged in •a rebound from
Merkley and Adams to send the
game into overtime.
The overtime contained an Ow
dance of end-to-end action, but
with less than 30 seconds remain-
ing, Campbell fired his sixth of the
game to give Hensall a berth in the
final.
The entire coaching staff was
very pleased with the performance
and behavior of the team this week-
end as the lads gave everything
they had in every game and, never
quit although 'they often found
themselves battling from behind.

Midway through the middle
frame, Wingham finally broke
through, firing six unanswered
goals to take a 6-3 lead after two pe-
riods. O'Krafka scored from Skinn
and Machan; Cameron from
O'Krafka and Jay Leitch; O'Krafka
from Machan; Laing from Merkley
and Phil Adams; Cameron from Jay
Leitch and Merkley from Jeff
Leitch. The score after two periods
was 6-3 for Wingham.
Brussels decreased the gap to 6-4
midway through the final frame,
but Wingham responded with two
more of its own, O'Krafka from
Skinn and O'Krafka from Jay
Leitch, to preserve the 8-4 victory.
Joel Leitch Went the distance in
net and after a shaky start, re-
bounded to make some saves later
on.
This was a big game for the little
spark plug” -O'Krafka as he flied
four goals and assisted on another
to lead the team back from the early
deficit. As well, the play of the de-
fensive group of Merkley, Anger,
Jay Leitch and Machan was instru-
mental in the win.

The win over Brussels set up a
confrontation between the locals
and Hensall in the championship

Hensall came away With a 6-5 over-
time victory, Hensall's Jeff Camp

The Junior Family Bonspiel, was
held Sunday at the Wingham Golf
and Curling Club. Six teams turned
out for lunch and two sixtencl
games. ••

Pewtress, Kim Edgar and Jennifer
Elston.
Pins and mugs were donated and
everyone had a good time to end
the junior curling season for anoth-
er year.
The mixed trophy, donated by
Lloyd "Casey" Casemore, was
played for last Tuesday evening. t
Bill Hanula and his Thursday night
rink played off against Bob Al-
lison's Friday night rink. The Alli-
son rink came out the winner in a 2
well -played match.
