The Ironmen took the series four games to none. The Patriots opened up the game just 1:03 minutes into the first frame on a shorthanded, breakaway goal by Rob LeBlanc. The trimmer's first goal of the contest came off the stick of Brad Murray, as he sent home a Darrell Durnin pass from the back of the net with Brad Priestap also drawing the assist on the goal. A defensive lapse resulted in the Patriots' next goal at 6:45 of the opening period when the Ironmen defense lost control of the puck in our end and Todd Lantz was there to beat netminder Murray Foxton. The Patriots went up by a 3-1 count one minute and a half later when Foxton made the initial save, but just couldn't handle the, rebound. The Ironmen took advantage of LeBlanc's-presence in the sin -bin to set up their next marker as Joe Walker, behind the Patriot net, fed a pass to Richard Bowman, who found Paul Brophy parked in front of the WE are seeking your assistance to name The Advance -Times CITIZEN `of the YEAR This award honours an individual in Wingham and area who has shown outstanding leadership, dedication and determination in his or her chosen field, be it business, professional, or in a volunteer capacity. 1 Nom Nominate Because Address as the 1988 Citizen of the Year Reasons 1 My POone Number is Clip and Mail To: btun ilattregeinste0 P.O. Durnin's back -hand shot failed but then he turned around to pick up his own rebound and beat Brad Reeves cleanly with his wrist shot. Fifty seconds later, while the Ironmen were on the power play and practising excellent puck control in the Mount Forest end, Brophy penetrated the net with his shot to give the Ironmen the lead, assisted byBowrnan and Walker. The Patriots' LeBlaric•left the game for an early shower with only 2:39 remaining on the clock after an original two -minute high -sticking penalty. His questioning of the official also earned him two 10 - minute misconduct penalties and a suspension. This display only seemed to strengthen the Patriots as they scored a short-handed goal with 1:10 left in regulation time, thereby setting the scene for overtime. The Ironmen were the first to break the tie at 7:03 of the 10 -minute overtime period, when Paul Tolton scored, assisted by Scott Hackett. J. C. IRON MARKERS—It was nice -to see Brad Murray back in the, Ironmen line-up after .an ankle injury sidelined hiin for the third game of the series. Priestap played right up to par as he had a big five -point night with one goal and four assists. ',inmates Priestap and Durnin also turned in stellar performances with four and two points respectively. Perseverance paid off in the fore . , of two goals for hard-working centre - Brophy and the defensive duo of Flett and Hewitt definitely is a force with which to be reckoned: They stood up . to their opposition at the bluelines and their shots from the point were a threat to any goalie. Hewitt picked up the game -win- ning goal too, by the way. It takes a complete team effort to win a hockey game and that is exactly what you can expect from this team, from each and .;every player. The team also has the ability and desire needed to get it through this next series with Hanover and with a little help and support from the fans, they are sure to give you your money's worth and hopefully make this a banner year. The Ironmen travel to Hanover this Thursday, March 2, for an 8:30 p.m. start in the best -of -seven series.
