Mustangs eliminate Seaforth,
ready to meet rival Redmen
By Kevin Smith
Sometimes things just turn out as
they should. In two high school
hockey playoff series last week, this
certainly was true.
The favored Clinton Redmen took
two impressive victories at the
expense of the Exeter Panthers, 10-2
and 3-1, to .garner a spot in the
Huron -Perth finals.
Standing in their way,, however,
are the F. E. Madill Mustangs, who
trounced Seaforth 13-1 and 11-0 en
route to their best -of -three cham-
pionship series with Clinton.
Neither of the semi-final . series
winners surprised anyone with the
ease by which they advanced.
Clearly, F. E. and Clinton are the
cream of the crop in Huron -Perth
hockey and deserve to battle it out
for the championship.
These two teams have met five
times this year with Madill holding a
slight edge in victories, three to two.
Even more indicative of how closely
these squads match up, is the fact
that four of the five games were
decided by a single goal!
111adill's victories over Seaforth
saw several players not only
improve their scoring stats, but also
impress upon the -coaches that they
deserve to play. against Clinton in
the finals.
Rod Crich collected nine total
point§ in the series, including four
goi 4..eff.McKee tallied three goals
and fo i sSists, Rod Cayley scored
twice;' while setting up his team-
mates six times.
Kevin DeJong notched a pair of
goals to go with three assists and
Jason Kraemer potted a hat -trick
and added an assist, playing only
game two of the series.
Two -goal scorers in the series
included defensemen Andy
McCutcheon and Craig King, Justin
Murray and Brad Crawford. Singles
went to John Greig and Dean Whit-
field. Whitfield also added three
assists in the tournament.
The only Seaforth goal was scored
by Aaron Broome with 16 .seconds
left in game one.
The winner of the Huron -Perth
final will host the WOSSA champion-
ships. As several of the upcoming
games will be -played in the
evenings, it will give the general
public a chance to see the calibre of
play at which these students
perform.
