GORRIE—The ladiesof the
Women's Institute spent a pleasant
evening at the home of Mrs. Anne
Simmons as they held the February
meeting. Mrs. Freda Klaassen of
Fordwich, District president, made
her official visit and brought.
greetings from East Huron District:
She spoke briefly about women's
concerns. Mrs.. E. Dennis, Mrs.
Robert Gibson and Mrs. Dorothy
Elschner were the committee in
charge.
The secretary, in her report,
stated that Mrs. Donalda Graham,
Mrs.:;Janet Hogg and Mrs, Floreflce.,
Gibson would be the committee':k
charge of entertaining ladies of thea
District branches, as well as ladies
of the community, to a dessert lunch
and cards in the township hall,
Gorrie, on March 16, beginning at 1
p.m.
Fifty dollars will be sent to the
Guelph Area convention for ex-
penses in 1989. At the request of the
District, this money will be raised
individually by the members, not
taken from the WI funds. The.

slippers; these were quickly sold:
Mrs. E. Dennis spoke on
Resolutions, the proper wording,
how they are sent to the District and
to the Ar.; where, if . •thought
necessary, they would be integrated
with similar resolutions from other
branches. A sample resolution
called for action in the dog situation,
to end the problem of dogs running
over lawns, shrubs and flower beds
and destroying them, as well as
leaving very untidy and unsanitary
,,surroundings. This resolution
parrieunanimously.
In keeping with the motto, "Ideas
are 'funny little things; they only
work if , you do", Mrs. .Alvin
Grainger spoke on highlights from
Guelph Area convention, supporting
this motto. She said, "As- our 100th
anniversary approaches, we should
ask ourselves: Where are we now?
Where are we going? The WI is an
organization with high ideals but as
individual members in our branch,
are we strong enough; to meet new

Mrs. Grainger will represent the
Gorrie branch in Clinton at a
meeting hosting membersof several
organizations, to discuss a proposal
for "Strategic Health Planning' in
Huron County.
Mrs Robert Gibson showed slides
of the Atlantic coast area . of -Nova,.
Scotia and the Gaspe Peninsula. She
gave an interesting commentary on
different pictures.
Mrs. Elschner presented a contest
on Valentine's Day and kept many
guessing. The lunch committee,
Mrs. Lloyd Faust, Mrs. Nellie
Taylor and the hostess, served a
valentine lunch.

dishes of candy. Everyone enjoyed
the food, followed by a dessert of
delicious pies.
While the tables were cleared, the
men dismantled the tables. A little
business was conducted and the roll
call, "A humorous incident I
remember", was .'answered. Two
guests, Mrs. Ethel McMichael and
Mrs. ' Florence Dickison, both of
Wroxeter, were introduced and, with
fiddle and piano; played many
familiar. tunes, including dance
music, -old favorites:' -and sacred
music. It was all very much enjoyed,.
The ladies were thanked and given a
gift in appreciation.'

But of course the stars of the show
vwill be none other than their Majes-
ties : of Disneyland, Mickey and
.MinnieMouse(s).
The bigevent is the annual Howick
Figure Skating.Carnival oatch 4,
commencing at
Appearing with members of. the
Howick Figure Skating Club_will be
guest skaters Allison Gaylor and
John Robinson of ' the Kerry Leitch
Figure Skating School in Kitchener.
Following the club's show; titled
"Mickey's Magical Tour", there will
be an "Olde" Fashioned Carnival",
complete with ' free public skating
and costume competitions and
prizes.
Costume categories will: include:
King Mickey, Queen Minnie, best
Disney character, youngest skater
in costume, oldest skater in
costume, largesejannly on skates
and in 'Costume.
• Bettee Ann Labrie, . carnival chair-
person, 'reports ticket prices are a
bargain. Advance tickets are $3 for
