Last week the primary students in
Kindergarten to Grade 3 enjoyed a
"hundreds unit".
All the classrooms made
collections of 100 different objects
and the children did individual
coffections. Some of the interesting
collections were chestnuts, nuts and
bolts.
oe the 100th day, the primary
grades let off 100 balloons. Then the
students split into groups and
travelled to different activity
centres all to do with the number
100.
Later they enjoyed a meal which
cost 100 cents and the day proved 100
per cent successful.

In Mrs. MacRae's class, they
counted .and sorted their -100
collections, while they put together a
100 -piece puzzle. They really
enjoyed their hot-dog day lunch.
Mrs. MacRae and her class would
like to say a big THANK -YOU to Dr.
Leedham for taking such good care
of their gerbils.
The students are working on
subtraction facts and writing for
their writing folders.

It has beena lively and exciting
week for the students in Mrs. Kerr's
class. They are learning how to use
calculators and using the factors 8, 9
and 10. And they have been learning°
how to make sentences and use
capitals.
The students took an interest in
Valentine's Day by making
Valentines for their friendS. The
children also -enjoyed the 100th day
celebration, especially tlie _cake *Ad
the movie called "The Million Dollar
Duck".
They presently are taking their
readers home to read to their
•parents.

Miss Turner's Grade 2 class had a
Valentine going -away party for
Kristin Oravec, who has moved
away.
The students were in the Valentine
assembly and on the 100th day had
art, measuring and weighing
hundreds of items. They even made
peanut butter with 100 peanuts.
In math, they are doing facts of 16.
Some students have read 30 books.

Miss Sandilands has partnered
with Miss Turner to make an after-
school gymnastics team for the
Kindergarten to Grade 3 children.
Also, the Grade 2-3 class is setting
up a fish aquarium.
They are ending their Eskimo unit
and starting a new unit on the
. newspaper. The children also have
enjoyed making Valentines for the
Can Save Tree. I hope all the Grade
2-3i had a very. enjoyable Valentine

Last Friday Mrs. Overholt's class
had la hot lunch with Mrs. Train's
class. They made lasagna, salads
and had parfait for dessert. They
made pancakes for pancake day and
participated in the 100 unit.
Daniel Sterenberg was the high
bowler for the last two weeks.
On Feb. 15, they went to the.
Wawanosh Centre and learned about
animal adaptation.

Last week Mr. Bowyer's class
went on a tobogganing outing behind
the school. They earned this trip fer
good behavior. In math, they e

Mr. Lisle's class has been in
charge of the Can Save Valentine
Tree this year. Thewmounted all the
hearts on the tree and put on a great
assembly. The:, have been busily
working on their stories and can
hardly wait for their history test!

Mr. Lindsay's Grade 4 class is
working on projects about- wild
birds. Last Monday, the elms visited
the test Wawanosh Outdoor Centre
and now they're writing letters to
Jayne Thompson.
The class saw a movie on the
blind.
The Grad 4s are doing a personal
project and have their book rack
filled with art and book reports.
Last week there was red day at the
school and the Grade 4s had a party
after school in their room and
Valentines were distributed.
On March 9, the Grade 4 is going to
Talisman to ski. Class monitors do
odd jobs in the room and rotate each
year.

CANSAVE ASSEMULY
Once again we made our Cansave
tree. Each class participated by
making Valentines to be placed on
the tree.
Mr. Lisle and Mr. Poulin did a
great job in organizing this event.
The money the school made will go
to help the poor people in Peru.
Maria Gibbons played the piano,
while Nathan Laidlaw introduced
each number. Some poems and
thoughts were expressed by Erin
Whiteley. '
Danielle Heibein, Dwayne McKee,
Eric Deyell,Tara Newell, Jenna
Ratan, Peter Shaw, Maria Gibbons
and Miss Turner's class sang some
songs and recited some poems.
At the end of the program, the
students and teachers sang the
"Can Save Song".

Junior Farmers
raising funds
for guide dogs
The annual provincial Junior
Farmer conference and banquet,
"The Challenge Is Mine in '89" will
be held March 17 to 19 at the Skyline
Hotel in Toronto.
Junior Farmers from all over the
province will be attending to put
their motto, "Self Help and Com-
munity Betterment", into practice.
For several weeks prior to the
conference, Junior Farmer clubs
across the province will be raising
funds for this year's provincial fund
raiser, Canadian Guide Dogs for the
This project concludes at the
conference when their combined
efforts are presented to the
Canadian Gnide 'Dogs for the' Blind
Association.
This association provides the
visually -impaired with the freedom
of mobility that many of us take for
grantelk Using a guide dog for travel
helps blind people lead full and in-
dependent lives as it enables them to
travel independently'andsafely.
In 1988, melube* Of the Junior
Farmers' AssoCiation of Ontario
raised close to $25,000 for the
Juvenile Diabetes Association and in
1987, donated over $16,000 to the
Children's Wish Foundation
It *hoped that together we will be
'able to provide a blind person with a
guide dog. Help the Junior Farmers
meet the challenge and fulfill their
motto.

The Kindergarten room was full of
delicious smells of cherries, straw-
berries and raspberries as we made
jello for our Valentine celebration.
Our Valentine bags were
decorated and hanging ready to
receive the cards. Everything was
ready and all were anticipating the
afternoon's Party. W,e had fun.

Grade 1 students last week worked
on puppet plays. Soon we hope to be
ready with "Cinderella", "Jack and
the Beanstalk", "The Three Bears",
"The Three Little Pigs" and "The
Little Red Hen".
We know how to tell time now on
the hour andlialf-hour. We're trying
hard not to write our numbers
backwards !

treats on Valentine's Day.

Did you know that Feb. 14 was the
100th day of the school year? Grade 2
celebrated by baking a cake and
bringing in hundreds of things to use
for grouping and counting activities.

Grade 3-4 students wrote stories
about the apple head we made. We
started a temporary unit on elec-
tricity. We went to the Bruce
Nuclear Power Development for our
units' energy.

Room 18 had a box social for
Valentine's Day. On March 3 we will
be having a White Elephant Sale. We
1. also. have started "Read All. About
It" and have viewed up to the
Chapter 14.
Mr. M's hamster had 10 babies.
New homes are being found for
them. The Grade 4 public speaking

Mr. Livermore's Grade 7 class has
done two tests in math on factors.
They had a history test and
geography test last week. Our novel
study is due Friday.
The two people from our class to
present 'their speeches at the Legion
competition are Josh Doubleday and
Patty Bennett.

Mr. Doubleday's Grade 7-8 class is
starting a new unit in math and
geography. Our class speech win-
ners were Erin Taylor, Michael
Greig and Kelly Bradshaw.
To celebrate Valentine's Day, our
class wrote love stories about
unusual pairs of lovers, for example,
an elephant and a peanut.
