Madill senior g
win at HuronsuPert
The Madill Nordic Ski team won
the Senior girls' division and_settled
for second place m the Junior girls,
Junior boys and Senior boys at
Huron -Perth last Thursday at St.
Mary's.
The Junior girls' team finished
only one paint" behind St. Marys in
the individual races and were a close
second in the relay.
Top Madill finishers were Karen
Clugston, 3rd in 15:52 minutes,
followed b Yvonne Trapp, 4th, 17:06
min.; Christa Crawford, 5th, 17:09
min.; Shannon Simpson, 8th, 17:49
min. and Beth Ward, 10th, 20:15 min.
The Junior boys' team members
also skied, excellent races and were
almost successful in defeating St.
Marys in the relay. The team missed
Kenneth Lapp, who couldn't race
due to a cold.
Junior boys'. results are: Sean,
Murphy, 4th,. 21:34 min.; _ Sean
Whiteley, 5th, 21:44 min.; Ivan
Skinn, 7th, 22:39 and Dean Tolton,

The Senior boys :were second to a
strong Stratford Central team. Brad

The Senior girls won the Huron -
Perth pennant for the school and
each member came home with a
medal for the team's first -place
nmsn.
The team consisted of Martha
Boon, who was 4th in a time of 24:26
min.; Pat Cowman, 5th, 26:08 min.;
Leya deBruyn, 6th, 29:49 min. and
Cailin Clarke, 7th, 31:22 min.
Leanne Simpson, representing the
Seaforth High School, won the
bronze in the Senior girls' race,
finishing six kilometres in 26
minutes.
The -team will complete the season
next Thursday and Friday at the all -
Ontario meet at Hardwood Hills.
Andy Shaw wins
two gold medals
Andy Shaw, a member of the
Wingham Optimist Track and Field
Club, competed in the eighth annual
Windsor Indoor Classic Gaines for
the Disabled last week.
Competitors. from 27 states in the
U.S. and nine Canadian provinces
competed in the two-day meet. The
athletes competed in track and field,
swimming, rugby, boccia, weight
lifting anclpower lifting.

Shaw earned two gold medals —
one in the 60 metre (11.3 seconds)
and the other in the 200m (40.1 sec.).
He also placed first in the long jump
for his category, leaping 2.58m.
It was an inspirational experience
to watch some of the nation's top
handicapped athletes in action.
HORSES DERAIL TRAIN

The winner, an unassisted marker
off the stick of the Shoppers' "Ray -
Gun" Leibold, came with 1:29 left in
the game, making the final 2-1 for
the Shoppers' Atoms.
The win couldn't have come at a
better time for the Wingham team,
which now is one and four in playoff
action. The true test of whether the
Shoppers have turned the corner will
, come, thismeekend when, the. team
goes into tournament play in
Southampton.
Their next league playoff game is
next Tuesday night, Feb. 28, against
Walkerton.
As a tune-up for the tourney, the
Shoppers met Brussels in exhibition
play Sunday. The loosely -played
contest ended on a 6-6 tie with
Brussels pulling even with less than
two minutes to go.
Sources close to the Shoppers say
a game is in the works involving the
parents. This comes in the wake of
reports that the "Old Shoppers" are
Mustangs end season

Jaret Henhoeffer hada big day for
the Mustangs as he netted the hat
trick and also picked 'up an assist,
Rod Cayley, Jason Bloeinberg and
Justin Murray also scored for
Madill. F. E. now has outscored
Seaforth 3310 in league play.
Madill's second game 'of the week
saw them MO Clinton and emerge
victorious in a 4-3 heart -stopper, ,
The game was very evenly played
through- the first to periods, with
Madill holding a slight 3'2 edge on

Then, with a little more than four
minutes remaining in the game,
Henhoeffer potted a breakaway goal
that appeared to salt away the
victory for the Mustangs.

Clinton will face the South Huron
Panthers of Exeter in their playoff
series and the Panthers should
prove to be more than a challenge
for the Rohm. However, look for

host the WOSSA tournament.

Two categories of horseshoe
players ventured out to the
Wingham Sportsmen's Club on a
frosty Thursday night last week.
Double -round games of 30 points
were played on the 'A' side, which
was won by Glen Casemore and
Harold Carter, four wins and a plus
of 47.
Ivan Gardner and Keith Moffatt
were second, four wins and a plus of
42, while Leon Russell and Lorne
Hamilton were third with three wins
and a plus of 56.
Rounding out the 'A' side scoring
were Alex Boa and Don Saunders,
one win and a pluS of 61.
Double -round, 30 -point games -also
were enjoyed on the `B''side, won by
Bob Gavreluk and Jim Wickens with
six wins.
Murray MacFarlane and Kevin
Scott were second with three wins
and a plus of 75, while Vince
McInnes and Bill Tiffin were third
with two wins and a plus 01133. "
Jun Rivett and Bill Campbell were
fourth with one win and a plus of 87.

The Crawford Dodgers edged
