The Wingham Ironmen have taken
a big, three -game lead in their semi-
final playoff with the. Matint
Forest Patriots.
The Ironmen downed theiroppon-
ents 64, 6-3 and 6-3 last weekend to
take a definite edge in their Junior
'C' series.
Game three was played in front of
a good-sized crowd Sunday at the
Lockridge Memorial Arena. The,
hometown fans were not disappoint-
" ed as the Ironmen recorded a 6-3
win.
It was Paul Brophy who opened up
the scoring in this match at 8:52 of
the first frame. Mark -McBride man-
aged to keep it in at the blueline and
got a pass away to Darrell Durnin,
who found Brophy in a goahnouth
scramble tenet his first of three.
The Patriots responded less than
two minutes later with a goal off the
stick of Bryan Nelson. Defenseman
Richard Bowman broke the tie with
1:23 remaining in the period with his
Athot from the point while the Iron -
men were on the power play.with
Jason Goodall assisting.
BrophI.,Ngain opened up the
scoring thesecondperiod after
Brett Martin dug the puck out from
the corner to Bevin Flett, who hit
Brophy with a pass and his low shot
to the right-hand corner had goalie
Brad Reeves cleanly beaten.
J. C. Hewitt took his time and had
the goalie coming out of the net to
make the save when Hewitt's shot
hit the top -corner, unassisted.
It looked as if the Ironmen were
going to end the period with a three -
goal lead until, with only 37 seconds
left in .the frame, the Patriots
managed to get two by Ironmen net -
minder Greg McClement to come up
with one goal of the lead.
Early into the third period, Jamie
R e ; fin.hLitRaul Tolten with a pass
from telittlhe Patriot net and
Tolton's back -hand shot had the net
bulging. Flett also drew an assist on
the play. ,
The Ironmen managed to hold off
the Patriots in the third and what
shots they did have on net were not
about to get by the red-hot
&immy,'
Brophy -finished off his hat -trick at

power play with Martin and Joe
Walker assisting.

Mount Forest's second power -play
glial came off the stick of Rob
LeBlanc at 14:04 of the middle
frame. Mount Forest took the lead
for the first time in the game when
Dale Litt scored at 12:39 of the
second.
But their lead was short-lived.
Brophy skated around the Patriot
defense.rhan and pulled the goalie
toward him to make the save before
shooting the puck into the open net.
Brad Priestap scored the go-ahead
goal -at 9115, which was the result of
some excellent passing in the Mount
Forest end with Wingham applying
the pressure. Brophy and McBride
drew the assists.
Brophy worked out a pass to
Walker from the corner, who fed it to
Martin parked in front of the crease
to put the insurance marker by
Reeves.
The Patriots were robbed of an
almost -sure goal when McClement,
while flat on the ice, picked the puck
out of mid-air to foil their attempt
and also for the rest of the period, as
he shut them down.
Wingham's final marker came off
the stick of Brophy when he tucked
in the rebound from defenseman
Hewitt's shot with Flett also
assisting,
GAME ONE
The opening game of the series
was played ' in- Mount Forest last
Friday night.
The Patriots were first on the
scoreboard when Brad Nelson
scored his first of two at 15:20. It was
beginning to look as if there was
some kind of invisible shield across
the Patriot goalmouth, because the
puck certainly wasn't bouncing our
way. It was either that or the ace
goaltending of Reeves in the Mount
Forest net.
It wasn't until there was just over
six minutes left in the first period
that Murray came from behind the
Patriot net all alone and tucked in
the tying goal, with Priestap and
Durnin drawing the assists.
The Patriots weren't willing to
settle for a tie and Nelson netted his
second at 4:59 to send them into the
second period with a one -goal lead.

Right-winger Priestap also had a
