Last weekend at Toronto's Massey
Thunderbolt Indoor Games, the
Wingham Optimist Track and Field
Club members turned in many
excellent performances to earn no
less than 13 gold, silver and bronze
medals and nine fourth, fifth and
sixth-place ribbons.
This high-calibre meet attracted
over 500 athletes from the Toronto
area.
Natascha Muscheid ran a very
strong race in the Bantam. girls' 400
2 : ` il%tre in a time of 1:03.0 to -earn a
gold medal.
Atom girl Julie Lisle led the
Wingham team, scooping up four
medals.
Lisle's fine form and speed earned
her a gold in the 50m hurdles; an ex-
cellent throw of 8.12m earned her a
gold in the shot put; a leap of 4.52m
in the long jump was good enough
for a bronze medal and she also
captured the bronze in the high
jump.
Teammate Carolyn Pike also had
an excellent throw of 7.50m in the
Atom girls' shot put to take the
silver medal.
Mary Lisle gave it her best, leap-
ing 3.60m in the Tyke girls' long
jump to win a gold medal She also
had an excellent throw in the shot
put of 5.0m, narrowly missing first
place by one centimetre to earn a
silver medal.
She also ran a strong 50m hurdle
race to take a bronze medal
Christa Pegg ran a very strong
race in the Tyke girls' 800m in
3:12.58 minutes to win the sixth-
place ribbon.
Michael Nolan had an excellent
jump of 1. m to capture the bronze
medal in the Tyke boys' high jump.
He also jumped well in the long jump
at 3.75m to take seventh place
overall.
Devin Chaulk flew through the air
in fine form to earn the fifth -place
ribbon with a jump of 3,88m in the
Tyke boys' long jump.
Janet Lisle ran a strong race to
earn a gold medal in the Mite girls'
200m and had an excellent leap of
3.07, to earn a silver medal in the
long jump.
Teammate Ginny Schenk ran a
superb Mite girls' 50m hurdles to
capture a gold medal with a time of
9.85 seconds. Schenk also was fourth
in the 800m with a time of 3:34.32
min.
