Alma Hargrave. Mr, and Mrs. Jack Douglas spent one day last week in Guelph. Mrs. Wally Nixon and Mrs. Eileen Marks accompanied Mrs. Leila Sanderson to Toronto on Monday and visited with Mr. and Mrs. Adrien Poirier in Mississauga. On Tuesday, Mrs. Sanderson returned to her home in Rose/own, Saskat- chewan, after :Visiting:with.relatives the past month. Ted Klaassen Jr. spent a' few days last week with friends at Timmins, ' God an Creation' is theme of meeting FORDWICH—"Discovering God in Creation" was the theme of the general meeting of the . United Church Women, held recently in the. Sunday School room. President Mrs. 'Dianne Mann welcomed everyone and opened the ng'µwere' teabYthe secretary, Mrs. Rosemary Magill and treasurer Minnie McElwain gave her report. Correspondence was read by Mrs. Mann. During the business meeting, June 27 was set for the strawberry garden party at the church and Oct. 24 for the fall fowl supper. The worship service opened with the call to worship and prayer by Mrs. Pauline Richards. 'A hymn was sung and Mrs. Jean Clarkson read Scripture from Psalm 8, folllowedby, ,ra r eading, "Creativity of God". Mrs. Richards read a poem, "Nature's Creed",followed by a hymn. During the singing, each - song was, illustrated by slides taken end shown by Mrs. Clarkson,` nature in storm, in alm, agriculture, beautiful scenery from coast to coast, many scenes from the Fordwich community, showing God's creativity. The meeting closed with prayer. Calvin -Brick members hold their annual meeting BELGRAVE—Seventeen mem- bers of Calvin -Brick United Church gathered at the home of Mr, and Mrs. Roy Dawson Monday evening, Jan. 30, for their annual meeting. Rev. John G. Roberts opened the meeting with prayer and Ivan Dow vas appointed secretary. Copies of the financial statements were distributed and -discussed and showed the congregation had met its obligations, though the givings were down from last year; The proposed budget for 1 , 9 was discussed and accepted. Officers elected, to retire in 1 :1, were: session, Mrs. Bryan Coultes and David Beecroft; stewards, George Inglis and Roy Dawson; trustee, Gordon McBurney. Appointed United Church Women representative was Mrs. Donald Dow; Sunday School superin- tendent, Donald Dow; Presbytery representative, Ivan Dow. Additional ushers. and offering stewards are Sherry Taylor, Brandon CouItes, Janet Ward, Brenda Hallman and Jeffery Olson. Mosic committee is Mrs. Ddnald Dow, Mrs. George McGee and Mrs, Barry Mason. Gordon McBurney reported that --40 families are receiving the Observer through the every -family plan. It was agreed to continue with the plan, with Mr. McBurney as representative. Mr. Roberts expressed heartfelt thanks to the congregation on brhalf of himself and Mrs: Roberts, for the kindness and support extended to them during their 22 years as minister. Jim Taylor replied with a vote of thanks to them for their many -years of service to the church and community. A social half-hour followed and a vote of thanks was extended to Roy and Matilda Dawson, Sacred Heart euchre party Kay McCormick was the high lady at last Tuesday evening's euchre at Sacred Heart Church in Wingham. Herb Clayton was high man and Kay Rich, low lady. Irene Smyth was low man and Edythe Coultes won the door prize. The. conveners were Joyce Doerr, Mary and Jeremy McGlynn. FROZEN TO DEATH Blustery winter weather resulted in a tragedy in January of 1904. A. W. Maybury; a highly respected farmer, who lived about five miles Southwest of Listowel, started for home with a load of chop. The roads were so heavy he abandoned his horses and went forward on foot in a blinding snowstorm. He was found dead in a field the next evening, a mile from home. He was 32 years old. ht: Y.'
