upper room
' The Women's Missionary Society
of St.. Andrew's Presbyterian
Church met in the upper room on
Feb, 7. Mrs. J. Donaldson opened the
Meeting with a poem, "God Gives
Us Joy,,.
The worship was taken from the
annual report of ttie Council, the
head body of the. 1MS. The first
reading was "Prepare and Share",
found in Samuel and read by Mrs. R.
McKay. The second reading was
"Who's Calling?", found in St.
Luke's Gospel and read by Mrs. W.
Lapp. Other scripture passages
from the Gospels of St. Mark and St.
Luke were read by Miss M. Wilson,
Mrs. G. Wall, Mrs. J. Conn and Mrs.
L.' Shickluna and Mrs. Donaldson
closed with prayer.
The offering was received by Mrs.
T. Currie and Mrs. Cretier and
dedicated by Mrs. Conn. Mrs.
Donaldson read a profile on the work
of missionary Sue Kober in 1987.
Mrs. R. Arbuckle showed a film on
South Africa, titled "What It Is Like
To Grow Up Black". Miss Wilson
presided at the piano for the
meeting.
President Mrs. Donaldson con-
ducted the business. Secretary Mrs.

Wall read the minutes and gave the
roll call. Treasurer. Mrs. • H.
Bateman gave her report` and the
meeting closed with prayer by Mrs.
Donaldson. Lunch was served by
Mrs. Currie and Mrs. J. McKague.
Granddaughter
is awarded
a scholarship
Brenda Bateman, the 18 -year-old
granddaughter of Mrs. Harry
Bateman of RR 2, Wingham, is this
year's recipient of a Campbell Soup
Company Ltd scholarship....:.
Miss Bateman, a Grade 13 student
at Listowel District Secondary
School, resides at Atwood. She is a
good student and is active in the
choir.
Her father is an employee at
Campbell Soup, Listowel, which
entitled his daughter to apply for the
scholarship.
The scholarship is worth' $2,000-`
U.S. each year for four years for a
total of $8,000. Miss Bateman hopes
to attend Wilfrid Laurier University,
Waterloo, this fall.

The February meeting of the
Wingham Voice for Life was held at
Sally Campeau's home recently.
Jim Bakelaar opened the meeting
with a prayer.It was noted that the
group's television advertisements
still are running and plans for the
annual meeting were discussed.
The date of the meeting is April 26
in Wingham with Bev Hadland the
guest speaker. Mr. Hadland is an
informed speaker on the . abortion
issue. Tickets will be available soon.
Voice for Life memberships now
are due. They should be renewed
annually.

Campaign Life Coalition it
planning a pro-life day at Midland
Martyrs' Shrine on June 18.
It was decided to support the
hiring of an all -Ontario co-ordinator
tobe based in Southern Ontario.
Mr. Bakelaar reminded the group
to keep writing to members of
Parliament pressing them about
new anti -abortion legislation
because the rights of the unborn
child must be addressed.
The next meeting will be held
- March 6. -
