Paul Hallahan assisted Mr. Cober in handing out the medals. The Mustangs lost the championship to the Clinton Redmen in the second over- time period. Mustangs lose championship in second overtime period by Kevin Smith It may not have been the Olympics or the Stanley Cup finals, but the determination of the players to achieve and the exciting hockey that was produced again made this year's edition of the Madill Mustang Invitational Hockey Tournament a resounding success. The tournament, hosted by the F. E. Madill Secondary School of Wingham, was held over a two-day period last Wednesday and Thursday in both the Wingham and Tom davits Town of Wingham The Town of Wingham would like to welcome everyone to our Frostyfest events for 1989, from February 9 to February 12, 1989. Eight teams were entered including the host Mustangs an were: the Clinton Redmen Walkerton District Secondar School, Walkerton Sacred Heart Elmira, Georgian Bay of Meaford Sarnia and Owen Sound West HilL Each of the eight teams played s twice last Wednesday, while thus qualifying for either the consolatio final or the championship game sa action in the Thursday finals. Here's a complete recap of th games played, with winners, loser and highligh$ from each contest. ROUND ONE • Winners advance to championshi seMi-finals, while losers play i consolation semi-finals. MadM 5, WDSS 3 The tournament kick-off gam saw the Mustangs build a 3-1 second period lead on goals by Dean Whitfield, Kevin DeJong and Jason Bloemberg with Brian Busby replying for Walkerton. However, it looked as though the teams would come out -tied for the third period as Walkerton's Derek Grant and Kevin Becker evened the score at three. But with 13 seconds left in period wo, Mustang forward Rod Cayley cored an unassisted breakaway g poal and Rod Crich tallied a third- eriod insurance goal to give Madill 5-.3 victory.
