Durham Peewees defeat
Great China House 3-2
Saturday afternoon's PeeWee
game was one of Wingham's
strongest efforts so far this season.
Providing opposition for the Great
China House PeeWees was a strong -
skating team from Durham that had
defeated Wingham twice before in
lopsided contests.
This game was different, however,
as the Wingham PeeWees matched
Durham stride for stride and shot
for shot.
Wingkam opened the scoring on a
picture play.
Jason Kleist made a rink -wide
pass to Jeremy Brown who went
streaking down left wing, then made
a crisp pass to Terry Thyme in front
of the net, who shot the puck past a
startled Durham goalie.
Within one minute of this goal,
Durham pulled even and then added
another following a scramble
around the Wingham net.
Wingham's second goal resulted
from a Stephen Anger shot which
was deflected' by a Durham
defender.
Midway through the third period,

Wingham continued to apply
pressure and during this time, had a
goal disallowed as officials ruled it
had been kicked into the net.
During the. course of the game,
three Wingham forwards bounced
the puck of the Durham goalposts.
The calibre of Wingham's play hast
greatly improved over the season
with the now -evident stronger
skating, and accurate passing and
shooting an encouraging factor for
the coaching staff as the team heads
into the"playoffs.
WORST STORM IN 20 YEARS
What was termed the most severe
winter storm in more than 20 years
brought highway and rail traffic to a
standstill in January of 1969.
Weather offices reported more than
100 inches of snowfall, about 15 in-
ches more than the total for all of the
previous winter. Dozers of pars
were. abandoned along the highways
in this area as drivers and
passengers sought refuge in farm
homes to wait taut the blizzard.
