Wingham Novice team
wins one games, loses two
The Wingham Optimist Novice
team salvaged one win in a busy
week of hockey action which
included games at home against
Seaforth and Mitchell, and a road
contest at Listowel.
Wingham 4, Listowel 3
The lone win came Sunday in
Listowel as Wingham skated to a 4-3
victory.
Wingham came out strong in the
first period with David Laing
opening the scoring at the 9:45
mark, assisted by Jamie Good and
Paul Machan.
Listowel tied the score a little over
a minute later, but Wingham went
ahead with 3:36 left in the period on
a goal by Jarret Griffith, assisted by
Mitchell Skinn,
In the second period, Listowel tied
the game only to see Wingham go up
by two on goals by Trevor Huffman,
assisted by David Laing, and Steven
Mowbray, assisted by Skinn and
Griffith.
Listowel came within one at the
4:42 mark and pulled the goalie with
a minute left, but Wingham held on
for the win.
Jarret Griffith narrowly missed
potting two when his shot rang of the
goalpost of an empty Listowel net.
Wingham's Micilael King played
another strong game in net.
Mitchell 3, Wingham 1
At Lockridge Memorial Arena
Saturday, Wingham hosted second
place Mitchell.
In the first period, Mitchell carne
out very strong with Dave Harris
opening the scoring on an unassisted
goal, followed by two more in the
period, Ben Uniac from Phillip
Jarmuth and Shawn Mabb frotn
Dave Harris.
Wingham got on the scoresheet at
the 6:13 mark of the second period
on a goal by Jarret Griffith, assisted

by Michael Remington.
The third period was scoreless and
although the Wingham players
continued to press, they were unable
to put another past Mitchell goalie
Jamie Maloney.
Seaforth 3, Winghai 0
Last Tuesday, Wingham
host to the Green Machine Seaforth
team.
Wingham played an excellent
game, both in forechecking and
backchecking, but still was unable to
match the strong Seaforth attack,
Seaforth opened the scoring in the
first period on an unassisted goal by
Jeremy McNichol.
With 16 seconds left in the period,
Seaforth went ahead 2-0 on a goal by
Michael Mullen.
McNichol's second put Seaforth
ahead 3-0 inthe second period.
Wingham had many chances.

Michael King, although not feeling
good, played a super game lathe net
to keep the score from climbing even
higher.
Novice News: An apology to Pau
Machan for not reporting his assist
in last week's paper. David Laing
forgot his girdle in Listowel or
Sunday, but team officials manage
to find him one, although reports arf
that it was just a bit snug.
Net game is Saturday ir
