January 3j Editor: Kara Neil The Kindergarten classes have been learning about how the Eskimos lived in Northern Canada long ago, as well as in the present. They have made kayaks, Eskimo people, igloos and dog teams. Now Eskimo people use snowmobiles to go to school and they have stores, just like we do. — Kelly Watson Mrs. Martin's class has started to draw Valentine pictures and they are looking forward to their Valen- tine's Day parts. The class is almost done its research on pioneer projects and is working on an oral presentation. In literature, the class is working on good sentence structure. — Marc Poulin. Mr. Sakasov's class has had a very exciting two weeks. The class 9 p' :e went down to the Optimist rink for a skate last week. To say goodbye to Nao, they gave him the little log cabin they had made earlier this year as a memento. The students are still working hard on their speeches, trying to memorize them. In French, they are learning to tell time. Now they are doing multiplication of three -digit num- bers by two -digit numbers. — Matt Elsmlie soy Grade 3-4 We had the F. E. Madill Junior Band come to our school recently and we had "Armchair Travellers". Our favorite countries were China, Russian, Germany, Mexico,, Netherlands, France, Scotland and Japan. We also are having Japan centres where we having fun making volcanoes, oragami and lantern art. We have been doing drama plays with masks and have been listening to and viewing videotapes and filmstrips. Some students have performed bilingual plays. Multiplication tables have started for Grade 3. — David McBurney, Dave Schwartzentruber Special Events Last week our girls' volleyball team hosted an exhibition game against Blyth. On Jan. 19 and 20 our school had an enrichment unit entitled Armchair Travellers. The students had a chance to visit four countries out of a possible eight. The countries studied were Germany, Russia, Mexico, France, Scotland, China, Japan and The Netherlands. Comments from students indicated they had a great time. Depart Until Feb. 28 Reg. They toured the Pine River Cheese Factory, .along with Mr. Bowyer's and Mrs. Train's classes, while Mr. Hunter's class at the high school joinedthern as well. Last week they joined in on our special goodbye assembly for Nao, the Japai e.se_ el,,Pcliangc teacher. They were sorry to see him go. The students are doing very well in their bowling and skating during physical education periods and came up . with some over -average scores this month. The students also enjoyed a very interesting tour of Wingham and District Hospital Andrea Plumb Grade 5 is glad to hear from its penpals. The students had fun going skating at the arena with their Kindergarten readingbuddies. They were sad to see Nao leave and hope he likes the book they gave him. They also hope he had a safe trip home. — Amy Jo Cretier Mr. Morton's class, along with Miss Sandiland's,. put . on an assembly for the departure of Nao, our Japanese friend, During the assembly, there was a s;Wrno wrest- ling snatch between Sushi Ranchi (Jeremy Brown) and Ching Garo (Ryan Leibold) . A play performance is corning up on March 8. It is the Grade 7-8 major drama piCs Cit_t1Vj of "The Beverly Hillbillies". — Ken Hogg Mr. Shaw's Grade 8s have been busy with their speeches. The Grade 8s that are involved in the major dramatic production have been trying to memorize their lines, while the other students are helping with set design. They enjoyed their trip to the Ford motor plant anti also completed 'both geography and math tests. Last Tuesday, Jan. 24, Mr. Shaw's, Mr. Morton's and Mr. Lisle's classes visited the Ford motor plant at Oakville. They left the school at 9:15 a.m. and reached the plant at 11:24 They toured the plant and saw many of the steps in making a car.
