The Wingham Shoppers' Drug
Mart Atoms had their unbeaten
•string snapped at four on Sunday.
Walkerton continued its
domination of "The Shoppers",
handing them an 8-3 loss at the
Lockridge Memorial Arena.
Walkerton went to the attack early
in this contest and held Wingham
hostage in its own end for much of
the opening period.
At 14:52 of the second frame and
with Walkerton leading 1-0, Kevin
Hogg snapped home a rebound to
even the score, but that's as close as
the Shoppers would come.

Walkerton went ahead to stay a
minute-latei and added four more
before going to the dressing room.
Hogg showed how persistence
pays off as he wrestled in a rebound
for his second of the game before the
period ended.
"The Shoppers" opened the third
period strongly, missing on several
good chances, Reagan Leibold
finally found daylight with a sharp
angled shot at 6:44. After that it was
all Walkerton, as that team added
three unanswered goals en route to
an 8-3 victory.
• Earlier last week, the Shoppers
skated into Belmore for what turned
out to be a tug-of-war with all the
elements of a real barn -burner.
Belmore struck first at 12:53 of
period one and it looked for a while
as if they might run away with the
contest. However, Shoppers' goalie
Scott Allen held his ground to keep
Wingham within one as the period
ended.
The Shoppers finally got going in
the second. Leibold moved around
the Belmore defence and fireid it
home at 14:52 to set the stag for
what became "The Battle of the
Sixes".
Leibold, wearing number six for
the Shoppers and Mark Huber,
Belmore's talented number six gun,
would each have three goals in this
hard-fought contest. Huber added
two assists for Belmore and Leibold
set up another Shoppers' tally.
Belmore took the lead again at
14:22 .of the second. But two minutes
later, Hogg muscled his way through
to score, unassisted and tied the
match at two -all.
The Shoppers took the lead for the
first time five minutes later when
Leibold scored his second, this time
from Curtis Hunter and Scott
Allison.
Belmore evened things up again'
Pat over three minutes later as
Huber notched his first.
The red light would go on no less
than three tithes in the final_ minute
of the second period, First, the
Shoppers went ahead 4-,3 as Leibold
scored from Hogg. Twenty-five
seconds later it was tied again.
Not to be denied, the Shoppers'
Mat Adams put Wingham up 5-4 with
sixseconds to go in theperiod.
Behnore's Huber came within a
whisker of tying it again as he was

The Wingham team looked as if it
had this one in the bag when Hogg
scored from Leibold at 12:25 of the
third to give the Shoppers a two -goal
lead.

trouble. With Wingham just having
killed off a tripping infraction to
Leibold, Belmore's Huber broke in
alone and tucked it behind Allen to'
make the count 6-5.
With 1:19 to go and the Shoppers'
Adams sitting off for interference,
Belmore got back on even terrris.
Huber, who was on the ice for
Belmore for most of the third period,
split the Wingham defence and
cruised in alone to make the final
