After a pot -luck Lunch, Mrs. Elmer Harding welcomed everyone and opened the meeting with a reading, "Let Us Look Back on the Road We Have Come". Roll call on the new year 'was answered by 16 members and secretary Mrs. Leo Ruttan read the minutes and correspondence. Mrs. George Richards gave the treasurer's report. After presiding over the 1988 business, Mrs. Harding thanked everyone for their co-operation with her as past leader and welcomed the new leader, Mrs. Scott Clarkson, who continued with new business. The worship service, with the theme, "What's New", was given by Mrs. Clarence Carswell and Mrs. Anson Ruttan. Mrs. Ruttan read "Yesterday, Today and Tomorrow", followed by a hymn and Mrs. Car- swell led in prayer. Scripture from Isaiah was read by Mrs. Ruttan. Mrs. Carswell, in her meditation, stressed the importance of following God's will in our lives. Mrs. Richards and Minnie McElwain sang "Ivory Palaces", accompanied by Mrs. Russell Nickel. The program, a study on Christian joy, was given by Mrs. Carswell and Mrs. Ruttan, with readings about joy . from the Bible. Mr. and Mrs. Jim Douglas visited last weekend with Mr. and Mrs. Dennis Johnston in Sarnia. Mrs. Marion Johnston entertained for a surprise birthday party in honor of Mrs. Annie Pittendreigh on Tuesday, Jan. 10. Those attending were Mrs, Evelyn Wilson, Mrs. Lorne Kelley, Mrs. George Richards, Minnie McElwain, Mrs. Edna Doig, Mrs. Duncan Sangster, Mrs. Jean Clarkson, Mrs, Clarence Carswell, Mrs. Bob Clarkson and Mrs. Bill Soper. The evening was spent playing cards and lunch followed, topped off with a lovely -decorated birthday cake. Mr. and Mrs. Barry D'Arcey and Jason were Sunday- supper guests with Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Miller. Mary McClement and Bill Leeming of Listowel were Sunday visitors with Mr. and Mrs. Bill Sothern. The sympathy of the community goes to Rev. and Mrs. Charles Byer in the death of the former's father, -Levi Byer, who passed away Saturday, Jan. 14, in Palmerston andDistrict Hospital. Mr. and Mrs. Bill Sothern were dinner guests on Tuesday evening with Mr. and Mrs. Bruce Bennett, Gorrie. Following the baptismal service for their daughter, Danielle Nicole, at the Fordwich United Church. on Sunday, Mark and France Harding entertained their family and friends at the home of Elmer and Ruth Harding. The sacrament of baptism was celebrated at the Fordwich United Church morning service on Sunday, Jan. 15, with Rev. Donald R. Beck officiating. Those baptized were Wade Harvey, son of Harvey and Dina Gibson; Danielle Nicole, daughter of Mark and France Harding; Thomas Allan, son of Brad and JoAnn 'Hutchison and Cody Duncan, son -of Rick and Karen McCann. Senior citizens hold card party FORDWICH—Fourteen tables were in play on Friday night, Jan. 13, at the Fordwich Hall, sponsored by the Fordwich Senior Citizens. Winners fel' high scores were Charlotte'flavidson and Percy l3ramhill; consolation, Ruth Har- ding and Minnie McElvvItin; special prizes, Bill Leeming and Hazel Seiler. Members are to save used stamps and give them to Mrs. Emerson Ferguson; sales tapes from Smith's and Zehrs are to be given to .either Mrs. Sothern or Mrs. Nixon. They were also asked to remember their secret pals. The group will cater for a wedding in early September. The March meeting will be at the Fordwich Village Nursing Home, preceded by a program with the residents. This will be March 16 in the afternoon; members are asked to note the change of date. Brenda Clark announced there would be a meeting sponsored by the Bible Society in the Gorrie United Chureh tonight (Tuesday) at 8:15. A film will be shown by Rev. Wallace Howlett. Mrs. Browne gave a humorous reading. Mrs. Clark closed the meeting and all repeated the Grace. Mrs. Tim Bunker conducted two contests. Lunch was served by Mrs. Don King and Mrs. Daunt, assisted by the hostess. roxeter Notes The sympathy of the community is extended to Mrs. Doris Adams', Andy and Bill Ste. Marie, in the loss of a dear sister and mother. Sunday visitors with Gordon Gibson were Mr. and Mrs. Gary Gibson. Mrs_ Evelyn Stephens and Mrs. Shirley Leek of Wingham and Mrs. Allan Griffith were dinner guests Wednesday evening with Mrs. Cliff Marks and her sister, Mrs. James Sanderson, who is visiting from Rosetown, Saskatchewan. Mr. and Mrs. Stewart Musgrove visited with Clarence Ott in Listowel on Sunday. Mrs. James Sanderson, Brussels and Mrs. Allan Griffith were in London on Friday and enroute home visited with Mr. and Mrs. Walter Eaton in Seaforth. NEW PREMIER Hon. G. H. Ferguson was the new premier of Ontario following the provincial election in June of 1923. It was a landslide for the Conserva- tives. Premier Drury and five of his' cabinet suffered defeat. North Huron's choice was John Joynt as Hurons all went Tory.
