April,
highly successful blue box
program could divert as much as .15
per cent of the flow from the norinal
waste disposal stream, Mr. Merrell
said.
However, in Huron County that
figure is likely to be closer to 10 per
cent, he added.
Public involvement, Ms. Richter
said, is a vital component in the de-
velopment of the waste manage-
ment master plan.
"Your input is absolutely critical
to ensure that we develop a plan that
most eets the needs of this
COU
Deci ,n future waste man-
agement i the county will affect
everyone, she said. "Take advan-
tage of opportunities to make your
ideas known."
In an interesting aside, a member
of the public asked Mr. MacMillan
how much the studyhad cost to date,
and he replied that the figure was
about $68,000.
When Huron County administra-
tive officials quickly pointed out that
county taxpayers would only pay 50
per cent of that because the MOE
funds the other half, the same
questioner drew chuckles when he
asked if Mr. MacMillan could tell
him where the MOE gets its 50 per
cent.
Blyth Councillor David Lee ex -
eel concern over stateinents
at one municipaiity could be
reed to accept garbage of
another, whether it Wanted to do 00
or not
Mr. 'Merrell said that 'although a
municipality does have thoAlght to
refuse anyone from dumping at its
landfill site, the MOE: bas the
authority to step in and issue an
order which allows another
municipality to use that site.
It does not make economical
sense, Mr. MacMillan said, for the
county's municipalities to continue
operating with 17 individual landfill
sites.
The same economical exercise
leads then Iceone or more larger,
regional operations, he said.
"Whether it's administered at a
county level or whether it's
administered by a board of
management of five or .19
mum-
cipalities which decide..to get
together and jointly operate a
landfill site."
Wingham Mayor Ian Moreland
said he is concerned over an article
in the report which indicates that no
industries have yet applied for
assistance 'in establishing a
recycling program.
"I think that all industries should
have a recycling program," Mr.
Moreland said. "I think we are
facing a real crisis in the garbage
disposal situation."

before. Because of, the size and
weight of this vehicle, police believe
a tractor truck with a float trailer
was used to move it from the area.

Mr. Cook said he didn't feel he
should have to pay for dump ser-
vices on his taxes if he couldn't use
the service. He proposed having it
taken off his taxes.
However, Clerk -Treasurer
Dorothy Kelly said there is no set
garbage fee in Turnberry. It is part
of the general tax levy and any
failure to pay could result in his
property going up for tax sale.
There was no further discussion on
the matter.
