The Wingham Tykes again
competed in two weekend games,
downing Howick 7-3 last Friday
night and Lucknow 13-1 on Saturday
• evening.
In the Friday night outing,
Andrew Laing fired five goals and
assisted on one other to pace the
Wingham Tykes to a 7-3 victory in
the Howick Community Centre.
Except for Laing's performance, it
was not one of the group's better
efforts.
Howick took an early 1-0 lead-in
the opening minutes on a "jam-up"
in front of the Wingham net Midway
through the first period Wingham's
little digger, Chris Roberts, tied the
score from Laing and Darrin Cole.
From that point on it\was all Laing
as he notched one from Jonathon
Montgomery to make the score 3-1
by the end of the first frame.
Laing quickly notched two more to
open the gap to 5-1. Curtis Ritchie
assisted on the first and Cole helped
set up the second.
Howick got one back before the
end of the second to end the period at
5-2.
Wingham's John Skinn made it 6-2
on a T oal troin Claris Cameron And
Gr Machan. Howick responded
qui kly to again narrow the gap.
Laing then rounded out a great
evening with an unassisted goal to
• complete the 7-3 win.
In last Saturday's match, Mat-
thew Merkley did just as his team-
mate Laing had the night before.
Merkley rang up seven goals and
added an assist as the Wingham
team played its best game of the
year en route to a 13-1 victory over
Lucknow.
