first meeting of 1989
GORRIE -- A potluck dinner pre-
ceded the first meeting of 1989 for
the seniors' Come Alive Club. Mrs.
Wilbur Hogg presided at the. piano
while `the members sang Grace, "4
Canada", "Happy Birthday" to Bob
Elschner and a few old-time songs.
Mrs. Lloyd Jacques opened the
business meeting with a prayer for
the new year by Edna Jacques. Mrs.
Lloyd Faust called the roll and read
the minutes of the last meeting. It
was agreed to make a donation to
the Town and Country Home-
makers.
The afternoon program focused on
the theme, "Memories", for which
Mrs. Melvin Taylor set the stage
with a reading entitled "What Is A
Senior . Citizen?". Alvin Mundell
played a medley_of Jim Reeves' hits
Anglican Guild
begins new year
GORRIE — Mrs. Grace Browne
was hostess for St. Stephen's Guild
on the snowy evening of Jan. 3. The
meeting opened with a prayer for
the new year by President Cherie
Farrish. She also led devotions,
reading selections from Living
Message and Quiet Heart. Scripture
chosen was from the 12th chapter of
St. Mark's Gospel.
Eight members answered the roll
call with items to replenish the
church kitchen. Mrs. Farrish gave a
financial report and read thank .you
cards from Bill Kane, Reta Ash and
St. Monica's House. Guild members
then planned a noon luncheon for
Jan. 26 and a Lions supper for Jan.
17.
A schedule for meetings in 1989
was arranged. After a discussion,
members agreed to have more
attetious in.lieu ,of regular programs..
Any members will be welcome to
present a program of interest.
Mrs. Nellie King asked to be
relieved of her position and Mrs.
Grace Browne volunteered to be
card convener.
The meeting closed with the
Lord's Prayer, Mrs. Beryl Steuernol
won the mystery gift brought by
Mrs. Georgina Zimmerman. Lunch
was served by Mrs. Browne and
Mrs. Zimmerman. Mrs. Browne
shared her birthday cake and all
wished her a happy birthday. Not
everyone has the opportunity to
celebrate her birthday with a Guild
meeting!
Seniors hold
dessert meeting
Desserts brought a large crowd to
the meeting of the Wingham senior
citizens' Happy Gang. President
Alex Robertson opened it with a
poem, "When You Are 80". Birth-
days of the month were remem-
bered.
Past President- Gordon Wall in-
stalled the new officers. New presi-
dent is Russel McGuire.
The next dance will be Jan. 20.
Games were played after the
meeting.
Legion hosts
shoot party
A total of 14 tables were in play at
the Wingham Legion Hall at last
Monday evehing's shoot party.
Olive Jamieson was high lad
while C. W. Hanna wasn
high man.
Marg Pollock was the low lady and
Steve Trapp, low man. Olive
McKay, Ethel Gaunt and George
Mitchell tied 'for the most shoots, -
while draw prizes were awarded to
Kay Rich, floss Taylor, Russell
Gaunt, Helen Casemore and John
King.
The Legion will host a euchre next
Monday evening, Jan. 29.
on his harmonica, concluding with
some .old fa vorite•songs.
Then the stage was set tor a radio
broadcast of "1Vfemories",:fehturing
Mrs. Alex Taylor, Bob Gibson and
Alvin Mundell as panelists, Mrs.
Mundell as interviewer and an-
nouncer Lloyd Faust, who used com-
mercials from . 1953. _All enjoyed
reminiscing about their childhood,
school days and youthful ex-
periences.
Mrs. Faust conducted a lively
game of "Living Acrostics" to con-
clude an enjoyable afternoon,
