Revo Vaudry new INMS executive The new executive for the coming year was -installed by Rev. John Vaudry when the Women's Mission- ary Society of St. Andrew's Presby- terian Church held its January meeting in the upper room on Tues- day, Jan. 10. Shirley Donaldson is the 1989 president, succeeding Marjorie Wall. Other officers are: vice president, Hazel Bateman; secre- tary, Marjorie Wall, assistant, Gertie Tiffin; treasurer, Mrs. Bate- man; pianist, Merle Wilson; assist- ant., Annie Conn; publicity, Rea Bibb; Glad Tidings secretary, Olive McKay; Associate Members, Gertie Tiffin, Merle Wilson; library and literature, Mrs. Conn; friendship and service, Grace Wright and Jessie Lapp; nominating com- mittee, Mrs. Lapp; auditors, Mrs. Wall, Mrs. McKay; historian, Mrs. Wall. The executive was in charge of this meeting. Mrs. Donaldson opened with a welcome to all and a new year thought, ending with prayer. The meditation, "Date With Destiny", was given by Mrs. Donaldson who closed with prayer, Mrs. Wall read a poem, "My Christmas Story Every Day" and Mrs. Bateman led in a new year prayer. The offering was received by Mrs. H. Lewis and Mrs. Bateman and dedicated by Mrs. W. Congram. A piano and organ duet recording was played and enjoyed by all. Mrs. Wall introduced the new study book on South Africa and Mrs. Bateman explained the different mission fields. Mrs, Donaldson conducted the business and Mrs. McKay read correspondence and minutes and called the roll. Miss Wilson presided at the piano for the singing of hymns. Mrs. McKay closed the meeting --with prayer and lunch was served by the committee. Churches get improvement access grants Grants totalling $50,000 have been awarded to three Huron County churches to help improve access for seniors and disabled people. Making the announcement on behalf of Remo Mancini, minister for disabled persons, Huron MPP, Jack Riddejl) said the -grants are from the Access Fund, The fund, established jointly by the .Office for Disabled Persons and the Office for Senior Citizens' Affairs, is designed to increase physical access by disabled persons and senior citizens to existing community facilities. Matching grants of up to $50,000 are available for approved renovations such as _ramps, grab bars, and Braille features. Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church in Mount Carmel received $15,912 to install four ramps and to make washrooms accessible. The Exeter United Church received $31,745 to install an elevator and two ramps as well as to make one washroom accessible. Sara Anstett, playing as a manwas high man and Paul Traynor was low. Margaret King won the door prize, The conveners were Arlene Hill and Teresa Futon, assisted by Jean Bauer and Eileen McGlynn. The next card party is tonight, Jan. 17. FAREWELL SERMON In late December, 1921, Rev. N. R. D. Sinclair preached his farewell sermon in the Belmore .church before leaving for his new field of • labor at Tiverton. Mr. and Mrs. Sincalir were going to be missed in the community but were wished every success in their new home, Mark Gerrard, Karen Fletcher and Leslie McGillis, Bu1lington; Kirby Phelps, Guelph and Rob Annett, Shetland. Mrs. Susan Hamilton, Dan and Michael of Listowel, visited Wednes- day with Alma Hetherington and Jeannie Edgar. Mr. and Mrs. Harold Crump of Kitchener were dinner guests of Mrs. Joe Simmons on Thursday. Mr. and Mrs. Mac Inglis of Mc- Intosh visited Tuesday evening with Mr. and Mrs. Ivan Haskins. Mrs. George Brown visited a few days with Mrs. Hugh Switzer at Georgetown. They were supper guests of Mr. and Mrs. Douglas Kaufman, RR 1, Georgetown, on Saturday evening. Mr. and Mrs. Jasper Farrish and Ian visited several days recently with Mrs. Linda Piche, Danielle and t Scott of North Bay. Mr. and Mrs. Bill Keil, Kirsten, t Tharen and Marc of Wingham, visited Mrs. George Hetherington on Sunday. Mrs. Ivan Haskins attended the bridal shower for her granddaugh- ter, Brenda King 'of Stratford, ,held at the home of Mrs. John Wilson of Fordwich on Saturday afternoon. The community was saddened to hear of the passing of Beverly Currah and . extends sympathy to Mrs. Currah and family. Maitland WI enjoys hat sale Maitland Women's Institute held the January meeting at the home of Martha Heywood. They began with the Opening Ode and Mary Stewart Collect. The rpll call was to take a hat to be sold for 10 cents and worn for the evening. There were some interesting designs and members had fun wearing them. Mrs. Heywood displayed some pictures of their home, which they rebuilt. Margaret Day spoke on real estate and what to look for when buying or selling a house. The members talked about start- hig a 4 -II Club in town again. Lunch was served at the close of this interesting meeting and as members left, they were given a our of the Heywood home. They thanked Mrs. Heywood for hosting he meeting.
