mark last Thursday. Here team members assemble in the lobby of the television station.
Wingham Atoms drop
3-1 decision to Clinton
It looks as if the Wingham
Optimist Atoms are a club that has
to be kept busy.
They were on a roll prior to the
new year, playing two or more
games a week. They took a break
from Dec. 29 to Jan. 7 and when they
hit the ice last Saturday against
Clinton, they jut w ren't the same
team. Clinton andi Wingham had
split their previ us meetings,
Wingham losing 5-0 and Clinton los-
ing 4-2.
However, on Saturday it was Clin-
despite being
o teams played
riod, a period
g chances, but
mostly a period of scrambled play
between the two blulines.
Clinton got rolling in the second
when Joey MacDonald put a -big
move on the Wingham defense at the
blueline, walked in alone, and fin-
ished it off with a good deke on goal
-
tender Craig Baynton. That came at
just over a minute into the second
period. FOur ininutes later, Clinton's
Trevor Burunia put the visitors up 2-
0 on a goalmouth play set up by
MacDonald.
Before the Second was over, how-
ever, Wingham managed to pull
within a 'goal. Jeremy Creeden put
one over a Sprawlhig Clinton net
minder ill a scramble in front of the
net. Assists on that one went to
Shawn Walker n04,010 Pander.

ton all the way,
shorthanded. The
a scoreless first
with several sco
shot rolled along the goal line and
out the other side -- but nothing went
up on the scoreboard.
In the third period, Clinton con-
trolled most of the play, the
Wingham squad seemingly content
to play "chase it" rather than put-
ting together any kind of effective
offense.
The visitors put one more marker
on the board, MacDonald wit his
second of the night about five in-
utes into the third, unassisted. Mac-
Donald pounced on a bad pass in the
Wingham zone and tucked it inside
the far corner with a low shot to
make the final score 3-1 for Clinton.
Coach Terry Anger and manag —
Keith Cameron booked the Atoffls
for a practice right after this game. _
They have another practice
Thursday, then it's a home game
Saturday against Seaforth.
The Seaforth Atoms will be out to
avenge their pre -New Year's loss to
Wingham, so the Optimist Atoms
will have to be sharp for that one.
Game time on Saturday is 3:30 at
Lockridge Memorial Arena.
Legion PeeWee lads
defeat PalmerstQn
Wingham's Legion Peewee Lads
edged Palmerston 5-3 in an
exhibition hockey match during the
Christmas brealc
Gordon Welch was the dominant
player on the ice in this game,
scoring one goal and assisting on
three others, while -standing the
Palmerston forwards up and knock-
ing, them down at the Wingham
blueline. Johnathan Lane registered
two goals.
The game was filled
on both sides, 34 minutes going to
Palmerston and 22 to Wingham. -

Harrow netted two unassisted goals
to close out the second period.
Matthew Hunter tucked the puck
between the Palmerston goalie's
legs, assisted by Welch; just a
minute later, Welch feathered a pass
inside Palmerston's blueline to
defensive partner Jason Evans, who
walked into the slot and wristed a
shot past the Palmerston nettninder.
Chris Harrow of Pahnerston col-
lected his 'hat trick to close out the
scoring for both teams.
The Legion Lads put together a
good game of passing and offensive
