One of the reasons Canada has , been slower to act on drug testing is that there are fewer AIDS patients in Canada than in the united States. Canadian drug manufacturers have been less inclined to sponsor trials of their drugs where there is a limited market. There are approximately 31,000 surviving AIDS patients in the U.S. whereas Canada has only a few hundred. This letter from Denis B. Merrall, engineer with the County Of Huron Road Department, recent survey done by his diiiit! ment indicates the foundation of the old mill upon which the gazebo is to be constructed, lies outside the existing road allowance. The letter further states that since the county's building setback bylaw excludes towns, villages and police villages, and since Wroxeter is classified as the latter, the gazebo may be constructed ott 'the old foundation. Furthermore, no further ap- provals of the County Road Depart- ment are required providing that no part of the building encroaches on the county road allowance. Mr. Merrall added that his only concern with safety was the parking _• of Vehicles on the edge of the road near the bridge to use the gazebo and park, but that this could be alleviated by having the access to the gazebo from the side away from the road and having some parking in the park area . George Oriold spoke to council on Jan. 3, explaining the Wroxeter Im- provement Association had '- collected enough money to start con struction of the gazebo. Council was concerned with the legal implication of Mr. Oriold's application for a building permit for land that neither he, nor the group • represented by him owned. Since the site is township owned, however, it was decided to approve the permit. - onstruction of the gazebo could stArt as earlyas- this sprfung; ° w'
