begin new year
BLUEVALE -- Mrs. Glenn Gulley
opened the Jan. 4 meeting of the Wo-
men's Missionary Society of Knox
Presbyterian Church at the home of
Mrs. Gordon Mundell. "Standing at
the Portal" was the first hymn.
Mrs. William Elston read from the
second chapter of St. Matthew's
Gospel and the 19th Psalm, She
spoke of the three wise men
following the star in the east and
presenting gifts to the Babe. She
urged the members to give thanks
for their blessings and look forward
to a new year. Mrs. Jack Willitts
offered prayer.
Nine ladies answered the roll call
with suggestions to improve meet-
ings. Mrs. Jack Jenkins gave the
treasurer's report and accepted the
offering, with prayer by the presi-
dent. A letter was read regarding
the 75th anniversary celebration in
London May 26 to 28.
Mrs. Jenkins spoke of the new
year as a calendar with a new page,
with appointments, dates of meet-
ings and courses. "We have a gift of
time,' she said, "Make it fruitful
and happy." In closing,. she said,
"Today is the first day date rest of
your life. God's 10e ,with you in
1 9. Put your 'hand hi the Hand of
God and Ile WifilepdYeu."

There will be no increase in UnCon-
ditional funding for the Town of
Wingham this year, the Ontario
Ministry of Municipal affairs has
advised the town.
At its regular January meetimg,
town council received a letter from
Municipal Affairs Minister" John

One of the staff members at the
Day Centre celebrated an an-
niversary last week, Catherine
Casemore, the meal supervisor, has
been working here for three months
now. Congratulations to Catherine.

earns $87,000
out of town
A total of $87,131.63 wag collected
from outside municipalities for
contract work performed by
Wingham Public Utilities Com-
mission, the PUC was told last week.
Manager Ken Saxton pointed out
that this represents the gross in-
come, and does not include costs
incurred by Wingham put in
completing this work. "We do,
however, make a certain profit from
these contracts."
The PUC looks after utility work
for new construction in Blyth,
Lucknow, Teeswater and Mildmay,
and looks after street lights in
communities in Turnberry and
Howick Townships.
