• in Silver Stick tour
It was close, but no cigar for the
Wingham Kinsmen Bantams at the
Kincardine Regional Silver Stick
tournament.
After finishing second in their pool
by beating Harriston 10-1 acid Ripley
3-2, Wingham met Uowick in ,the
quarter -finals.
The Kinsmen Bantams needed a
special effort from everyone in
order to have a chance to upset
I,iowick, and `they got it. Scott Neil
openers the scoring just over two
minutes into the game and Wingham
did not let up until the final buzzer.
When the dust had cleared, the
Kinsmen Bantams had earned a 5-1
victory. Jason Bloemberg, Tim
Currie, Ryan Deyell and Rob
Harrison'each added singles.
The victory moved Wingham into
the semi-finals with Lucknow who
had defeated the Kinsmen Bantams
8-1 in the preliminary round.
Things were looking good early for
the Wingham team, up 1-0 after the
Peewees lose
to Blyth and
Seaforth„ teams
The Belgrave PeeWee team
visited Blyth late last month and
came away on the short end of a 4-2
count.
,j3rad Robinson opened the
Belgrave scoring, assisted by Doug
Wilson, to give the boys an early
lead, but they trailed 2-1 after the
first frame. s
Wilson then tied the game in the P
second, assisted by Brad and Mark
Robinson. Blyth scored two goals in
the third to clinch the win.
On Thursday, Dec. 22, Seaforth
skated away with a 6-3 win over
Belgrave. The opponents took a 2-0
lead before Tim Coultes scored on a
pass from Mark Olson to end the
first period.
Seaforth had built a 4-1 lead before
Mark Robinson scored from Corey
Moran. In the third frame, Brent
Robinson completed the Belgrave s
scoring, assisted by Olson. se
Belgrave plays in a league
consisting of Blyth, Seaforth, Elma
Logan, Brussels and Zurich. The Gil
team record is three wins and seven an

While Wingham tried to recover,
Lucknow could not be stopped and
coned to a 6-1 victory.
The Kinsmen Bantams have three
games this week, including an
exhibition contest with a team from
Denmark Thursday night at the
Lockridge Memorial Arena.
Opening ceremonies are -scheduled
for 6:50 p.m'.
Ironmen dump
Blackhawks 9-3
Wingham Ironmen trampled over
the visiting Walkerton BlackhaWks
with a 9-3 win in Junior "C" Hockey
action at the Lockridge Arena en
Boxing Day.
The Ironmen didn't take long to
wear off their Christmas dinners.
Marksmen for the home team in the
first frame were Dan Gilchrist,
assisted by Jason Goodall and Brad
Murray; Richard Bowman,- also
assisted by Murray; and Murray,.
assisted by Paul Brophy and Mark
McBride.
The Blackhawks managed to tally
one lone marker in the first period
on.a powerplay.
The home team was first on 'the
coring card again in the second
eriod, with a goal by Sandy
McDonald, assisted' by McBride and
Murray. The Blackhawks replied
with another power play goal past
Wingham netminder Murray Fox -
ton, Jeff McKee scored at 5.31 of the
second for the Hawks to put his team
within one goal of the lead. Then
Wingham scored a power play goal
with just over three minutes re-
maining in the period, off the stick of
Murray, assisted by Brophy and Mc-
Donald. McDonald added an in-
urance marker with only one
cond left to go in the second frame.
Wingham added three more in the
third to ice the win, with scores by
christ, assisted by Darrell Durnin
d Bevin Flett, Brophy from
Murray Houghton and Gilchrist, and

This Friday the Ironmen have the
opportunity to .rest up for the.
league's all-star game to be played
Saturday at 8 p.m. in Hanover
against Stratford's Junior "B'=''
Cullitons. Tickets are available from
the Ironmen executive.
Skating on the all-star team from
Wingham " are Brad Murray, Brett
Martin, Sandy McDonald, Mark
McBride and Richard Bowman.
On Sunday, the Ironmen play host
to the Port Elgin Bears. Game time
is2p:m.

A native of Goderich, Darrell is
the son of Mr. and Mrs. Ron Dur-
-nin. In his first season with the
Ironmen, this left-winger sports

of the Goderich minor hockey
system and the Goderich Junior
'C' club, Darrell is 19 years of
