FROM THE
(HELLO!
I'm Gloria Workman, Chaiiperson of the Recre-
ation and Community Centres Committee. I am
currently employed by the Day Centre for the
Homebound and am very enthusiastic about the
development of recreation and social programs that
meet the interests of people of all ages! I am very
excited to be ,Chairperson of the Recreation and
Community Centres Committee, especially". this
year when so many new andexciting things are
happening.
Before 1 expand on these new items of interest, I
would like to take this opportunity to welcome Les-
lie Marxheimer, our new Director of Recreation,
arid Peter Quennell, our new Facility Manager. Lea
siie began working with the Recreation Department
in September 1988 while Peter began employment
with the Town in Augusto Since the summer, it has
become apparent that both Leslie and Pete are full
of energy. Energy that the people of Wingham and
the surrounding townships can take advantage of
by participating in one of the new and exciting pro-
grams offered by the Recreation Department.

hope that by now everyone has heard about
the Recreation and Culture Master Plan and Feasi-
bility study. We have had a sneak preview of what
the Town and Townships would like to see. The
final report should be available in February,
Interest has been evident for more arts, cultural
and educational programs. Programs offered by
Conestoga College are now available in Wingham
in cooperation with the Wingham Recreation De-
partment. In addition, a group of 'interested citizens
met with representatives from the Ministry of Cul-
ture and Communication, and Ontario Arts Council
to discuss the arts and cultural needs of Wingham
and area. A steering committee was formed from
this meeting which will be instrumental in the devel-
opment of the arts within our community.
These are only a couple examples of what is
happening to provide VVingham and area residents
with a well rounded recreation service that meets
the needs and interests of the whole community.
Communication is extremely important in devel-
oping solid recreation programs. If you have any
suggestions or concerns please do not hesitate to
contact the Recreation Department. The door to
communication is always open.
