Tumberry court:
its fess for bqtttII
Turnberry Township Council has
increased the fees charged for
building permits to more accurately
reflect costs,, in addition to increas-
ing the building inspector's pay rate.
Building Inspector Alex MacDon-
ald attended the second monthly
meeting of council to discuss
building costs, as well as his wages.
To reflect the increasing costs of
building, Mr. MacDonald suggested
revising the value of buildings for
the purpose of permit pricing.
The new values (with the previous
values in parentheses) are: new
house, $65 per square foot ($55);
house addition, $65 ($40) ; pole barn,
$6.50 ($5.50) ; lined and insulated
barn, $30 ($25) ; storage shed, $5.00
($5.001 and lined shed, $18 ($15) .
The fee schedule was amended to:
new structure, $30 for the first $1,000
and $4.00 for every additional $1,000;
manure tank, $50; granary, $30 and
no charge for demolition permits.
What this means in dollars and
cents is that a new home in Tur9
%berry, valued at $75,000, would be
assessed $326 for a building permit,
an increase of $148.
Under the new -schedule, mobile
homes will be treated the same as
new homes with a minirnuin charge
of $100. The previous rate had been
$50.
While council members were not
in favor of setting a precedent by in-
creasing Mr. MacDonald's hourly
rate significantly, they did make
-sorne concessions.
His hourly rate was increased to
$12 from $11, however, he will
receive $20 per permit issued, up
from $7.00, as well as $400 per year
for miscellaneous expenses, an in-
crease of $200. The building in-
spector also is paid mileage at the
township rate.
