Legion. Peewees lose to
Goderich, down Milverton
The Wingham Legion PeeWees
went into the Christmas break with a
win and a loss, dropping a 6-1
decision to Goderich and defeating
Milverton 5-1.
At the Christmas break; the lads
had recorded a split 11 wins, 11
losses on the season. Coach Pegg's
objective was to be above the 500 -
mark by Christmas, but the boys
just could not do it.
They did notseem to have a sharp
edge to their play last Thursday eve-
ning against Goderich. They lacked
desire to get to the puck and as a
result, lost several chances to get, a
quality shot on net.
The penally killing was sharp,
giving up just one goal, but the
power play was extremely sluggish.
Goderich outshot the Legion lads 27
to 14. Wingham also took 18 minutes
in penalties.
Goderich had built up a 4-0 lead
when Murray MacLeod's goal was
disallowed because Wingham had
too roany men on the ice. Then,
adding insult to injury, MacLeod
served the penalty for his team.
As if that weren't enough,

the third and:had,;to leave the game.,
Latest "reports indicate the knee was
bruised.
Wingham's lone goal came off the
stick of Brett Sangster from Bart
Cameron. Sangster was easily the
most aggressive Wingham skater,
while Shane Pegg and Jason Evans
strutted their stuff on defence.
In a separate match -up last week,
the third and final meeting of the
regular season between Wingham
and Milverton ended with the Legion
lads winning all three games.
Once again the game was penalty
filled. Wingham collected 26 minutes
and Milverton, 18. On three oc-
casions, the Legion squad faced
three skaters to five and came away
not giving up a goal and only few
harmless shots from long range.
Matt Elmslie had a shut -out, going
until the 7:52 mark of the third
period when a Iong-range shot from
outside from the blueline deflected
in off a Wingham defender between
the legs of Elmslie. The shots on goal
were Wingham, 30 and Milverton,
14.
Matthew Hunter was easily the
outstanding skater, working hard in
a forechecking role, forcing the Mil-
verton defenders to hurry their
passes.. His tenacity earned him a
short-handed, unassisted goal as he
stripped the defender of the puck on
a shot on goal and then from a dif-
ficult angle wristed in his own
rebound.
Hunter opened the scoring at the
four -minute mark of the first period,
tucking the puck between the legs of
the Milverton goalie off a shot from
Gord Welch. Jonathon Lane added
an unassisted marker before Hunter
scored, unassisted. Sangster then
scored from Cameron and Jonathon
Balzer rounded out the Legion
scoring, from Leibold and Lane.
The Legion lads took to the ice last
night, Tuesday -and then take part in
a Silver Stick Tournament today,
Wednesday, facing off against
Zurich. The boys play Hillsburgh
