Seaforth downed Fergus 6-3 to win the at division crown and later handily defeated Drayton 9-1 for the overall tournament championship. Action started last Tuesday eve- ning at the Lockridge Memorial Arena with Fergus squaring off against Clinton. Fergus came away with a 5-1 win as -Brett Turner netted two goals and assisted on one other. Turner scored the only goal of the first period with 19 seconds left to play. Brad McBurney and Ryan Curtis combined to increase the lead to 3-0, before Trevor Baruina broke Dave Ososki's bid at a shut -out, making the score 3-1 by the period's end. Turner scored his second marker of the game less than one minute into the final frame and Gerd Hartley fired the final goal of the game with 32 seconds left for the 5-1 final. Wes Rohl spoiled Scott Wood's shut -out bid with a goal with 49 seconds left to play in the final frame. Ripley 6, Palmerston 4 Peter MacDonald paced Ripley to a 6-4 victory over Palmerston, recording a hat trick enroute to the win. He scored a pair of goals in the first frame to give his team a 2-1 lead. Robbie. Dietrich replied for Palmerston. Ripley built on its lead to make the count 4-1 after second -period action on goals by MacDonald and Doug MacDonald. Palmerston attempted to make a comeback on third -period markers by Stephen Henderson, Mike Riddell and Garry Rissell, but Ripley countered with goals by B. J. Cronshaw (the game winner) and Tim Vansickle. . Blyth 3, Mildmay 1 Blyth recorded a close 3-1 victory over Mildmay on a pair of markers by Scott Arthur. Brian McNichol added a single - to -.help the -cause. Chris Lee lost the shut -out on a second -period marker by Troy McDiarmid. Clifford 3, Shelburne 0 Scott Walls was the first goal - tender of the tournament to record a shut -out as Clifford blanked Shelburne 3-0. The netminders proved tough to beat through two periods of play. Boyd Devereaux, right, accept- ed the banner and trophy Sunday from Wayne -Elston of the Wing - ham Optimist Club. Seaforth captured the 81 division, as well as overall tournament championship and will go on to represent stile region at Sarnia in January.
