David Mudie, 18, currently is on a six-week Lions Club youth exchange to this country and is staying at the home of Mary Ellen and Terry Brown of Strathroy. When the Browns learned that their young visitor was from. Wingham, Australia, they knew they had to bring him here as a point of interest. When they arrived in town last Monday, they picked the right person to show them around —Lions Club member "Lloyd" Casey Casemore, Soon Mr. (asemore was giving them a tour of the sights, including a walk up the main street Commissioners -arim for=joi. Finally after some further discussion, members decided to take the matter of a new pumper back to their respective councils for input and be ready to discuss the issue again at the January board meeting. When Bill McGrath asked if the fire board has reserve funds for such large expenditures, he was -told, no. The board cannot hold reserves, explained Secretary Byron Adams, but the member municipalities may set up fire reserves. Under a costing formula set out in when the board was formed, municipalities contribute toward capital and operating costs. 'A breakdown of the - costs show Wingham at 36.2 per cent; Howick Township, 29.6 per cent; Turnberry Township, 17.8 per cent; Morris Township, 8.7 per cent and East r Wawanosh Township, 7.7 per cent. s Mr. Gaunt proposed moving the e old pumper from the Wingham- station to Gorrie and using the 1966 pumper there for standby purposes p only. However, Howick representa- c tive Gerald D'Arcey said he felt it would be too costly to maintain the c old pumper just for standby. Nelson Underwood asked what the s 1966 pumper might- be worth if it were sold. Mr. Gaunt said the board might be able to sell the vehicle, but in it wouldn't be worth very much. A recent high school graduate, David applied to come to Canada - under the Lions exchange, mainly to tease his father, who always has wanted to visit this country. David was accepted into the program and arrived here two weeks ago. What he encountered when he got here was something of a shock. While he said expected Canada to be full of wide open spaces, he expected them to be green. Instead he found wide open, snowy white spaces and bitter cold.
