Sunday School presents
international Christmas.
The Wingham United Church
Sunday School held its annual
Christmas concert Sunday evening
with a large attendance on hand for
the program, a look at Christmas in
different parts of the world. Dave
Shaw, chairman of the Christian
Education committee, got things
under way by leading in carol
singing, with Hap Swafridge
providing piano accempaniMerd
then and throughout the evening.
After the Sunday School pupils had
fded in by okras, they presented their
mmibers on stage. Each followed the
theme, "Christmas Around the
World".
The Grrule 2 class, taught by Ruth
Haines and Kathy Edgar, chose the
Netherhinds-,–dtvicting Christmas
customs there. This was followed by
the pre-school and Kindergarten
group, with a poem and songs. In
charge were Bev McBride, Cheryl
McDonald, Helen Skelton, Caro-
lynne Netterfield, Karen Laidhivr--:
rind Dianne Simplon.
The Grade 6-1 boys, conductecnrjr
ad BUrton; Ward and'Sean:
Rathburn, brought out various
aspects of a Canadian Christmas.
The entire senior Sunday School
then provided two vocal numbers,
"Come on, Ring Those Bells" and
"Mary Had a Baby". Next came the
Grade 3 class, whose teachers are
Shirley Hanula and Maureen Lisle,
with a presentation on the Ukraine,
featuring costumm, symbols and
dance typical of that country.
Grata 1, led by Ernie and Karon
Kerr, featured Switzerland, each
chRd carrying -a small Swiss flag.
They were assisted by Caroline
Watson, modeling a fancy Swiss
ceremonial dress and by Fabiemne
Glauser, whose family emigrated
from Switzerland. She gave back-
ground information and read a poem
in German, with the children
pavidingthegagliih translation.
Then came a lively presentation
by the Grade 4 class, conducted by
Eleanor Ward and Liz Kernaghan.
They chose Mexico -and through
script and action, demonstrated the
porited.And:Worful way Mexicans

envelopes, distributed earlier. This
is the chief mission project of the
Sunday School, with the money
donated to various needs.
Nord came a feature on Australia
by the Grade 6-7 girls taught by
Marilyn Vend and Amber Under-
wood. They produced their own
drama on a family e'down under"
and how they might celebrate
Orriahuas. The Grade 5 class led by
Evorme Carter followed, with class
members in the commies - of the
many nationalities represented
within our own borders.
The final program number was a
brief drama on Norway by the
Grade 8 (confirmation) class led by
Rev_ Rea Grant and Gary. Lisle.
Entitled "The–Best Christmas
Plisse", the playlet outlined several
Norwegian customs, including
emphasis on befriending the poor
and lonely.
At the conclusion of the concert,
the children went to the Sunday
Scbiol room for a ging- erbread-man
treat provided by Unit '83. The
Sunday School counts ap-
proximately 200 on the roll.

The Wingham Library reflects a
Christmas mood these days with a
beautiful free, generously donated
by Don Henry of Bluevale. The
"Storyhour" children have added
sparkling touches to the tree and
many thanks are extended to the
Friends of the Library, whose ef-
forts have helped make Christmas
"happen" at the library.
A "auldren's Christmas Craft
Workshop" is planned for this
