GOLDEN ANNIVERSARY — Bill and Jean Sothern of RR 1, Ford-
wich celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on Oct.. 15.

their 50th anniversary
. FORDWICH -- Fifty years ago
Jean and Bill Sothern travelled to
the Gorrie Anglican Rectory where,
attended by Velma (Zimmerman)
Jacques and Art McLaughlin they
were married by Rev. A. H. O'Neil.
Following the ceremony, the
newlyweds and their attendants
dined at the Diana Sweets Restau-
rant, Listowel, after which Mr. and
Mrs. Sothern travelled to London
and Niagara Falls for their honey-
moon.
On their return the Sotherns
mixed -farmed for 30 years at RR 1,
Fordwich where they still live.
Mr. Sothern is the son of the late
William and Susan Sothern and Mrs.
Sothern is the daughter of the late
Gladys and Jim Vittie.
After retiring from farming, Mr.
Sothern worked at Campbell Soup
Company Ltd for 10 years. Mrs.
Sothern worked -at the Fordwich
General Store for many years before
being employed at Smith's valu
mart for 14 years.
Now retired, the Sotherns hope to
do some travelling.
Mr. Sothern enjoys reading and
watching television, while Mrs.
Sothern keeps busy gardening and
as a member of the Fordwich
Women's Institute and the Anglican
Church Women's group president.
She has been a correspondent with
The Wingham Advance -Times and
The Listowel Banner for the past 30
years.
The Sotherns have two children,
one daughter Nancy and her hus-
band Bill Mulvey of Belmore arid
one son, Gary and his wife -Sharon of
Palmerston.
They have four grandchildren:
Jeff Mulvey of Willowdale, Cindy
and her husband PauDe Vries of
Listowel, Tim Sothern of Waterloo
and Tracey Sothern of Palmerston.
On Saturday, the Sotherns, with
their family and close friends dined
at Ranton Place, Palmerston to
celebrate the golden event.
On Sunday an open house was held
at the Fordwich Community Centre
with 250 attending. "It was packed,"
said Mrs. Sothern, "It was un-
believable."
Guests attended from Scar-
borough, Mississauga, Toronto,
Willowdale, Ayton, Stratford, Kit-
chener, Waterloo, Port Credit, Port
Colbourne, Guelph, Elmira, Harris -
ton, Palmerston, Listowel, Atwood,
Fordwich and the surrounding area.
If they had the chance, Mrs. Soth-
ern laughed, she and Bill would do it
all over again. •
