"Childreach" is operated through Family and Children's Services of (Huron,Countyandits co.ordina tor is Jane Hoy. The program is being funded through a provincial government grant. "It's time we started to recognize that parents need- support to do a good job," explains Ms. Hoy. While the mothers discuss common con- cerns related to parenting, their youngsters are _entertained by volunteers.at the church, The program is open to anyone who has an interest in parenting, whether they have young children or are thinking of starting a family and want to do the best job possible for their children. In addition to discussion, there will be speakers on related topics, WMS ladies are visitors in Russian -church On Sept. 26, two busloads of WMS members from Maitland Presbyter- ial met in Wingham to go to Toronto to visit a Russian Orthodox Church and see their many icons (paintings of Biblical events) which adorn it. A typical Russian mean was served by the women of the church. This included borscht (cabbage soup), piroshok (a small oblong roll containing, meat), pelmeny (small egg -roll type cooked in water) and, for dessert, cheesecake with tea or coffee. The priest took the meMbers into their worship area and explained the icons and their form_of worship and customs. The oJy seats --were around the edge ottlie auditoritul1; the congregation stands for the service. From there, the group went to the Presbyterian Church offices, including the WMS Book Room at Don Mills. They enjoyed a tour there and met some of the staff. This bus trip was arranged by Isobel Arbuckle and other vice- presidents of the Presbyterial and will take the place of the fall rally. at such as behavior management and a speech pathology. So little emphasis has been put on developing good parenting skills that Ms. Hoy is very excited about this new program. It is chance to r „ • , • •r # Tr learn about and discuss options in parenting and maybe even make - onisimmi some new friends along the way.
