HospitaJ auxillary tours
the laundry operation
The September meeting of th
Auxiliary to Wingham and Distric
Hospital was held in the boardroom
last Monday.
The ladies enjoyed a tour of the
laundry facilities, conducted by
Mrs. 1Vfildred Galley, director of
housekeeping and laundry and Mary
Houghton, laundry supervisor.
The auxiliary members found the
laundry to be a very busy place with
all the laundry sorted, weighed and
soap measured in accordance with
each load. The part-time seamstress
not only mends and patches any tear
or worn spot, but makes articles that
can be used in different parts of the
hospital.
Mrs. Golley demonstrated some of
the machines which are used in
cleaning and care of the hospital.
There are eight full-time and nine
part-time employees working two
shifts.
Still with the auxiliary, a lovely
autumn tea was held Sept;19 at the
home of Dorothy MacDonald,
Brussels, where 21 ladies joined the
auxiliary to :bring its total mem-
bership to 63.
t It was announced a teen con-
ference will be held in Kitchener on
Sat., Oct. 22 for Candy Stripers. The
fall conference for auxiliaries in this
region will be held Oct. 3 in Seaforth.
The fall rummage sale will be held
in the Wingham Armouries on Oct.
15 and 16 with the hours for selling to
the public remaining the same as in
the spring: Thursday from 6:30 to
8:30 and Friday from 10 a.m. to 1
p.m.
Volunteers are needed to assist in
the x-ray department.
NEW HIGH SCHOOL
Wingham High School opened in
January of 1907 in the new building
and staff and pupils were delighted
with the conveniences. The
classrooms were light and well
ventilated. The science room was
well fitted and would be the scene of
many interesting experiments. The
building was comfortably heated
and sanitary closets were in the
basement. The attendance stood at
150.
