A new Service is being, eaereg ney

Program.
Bev Brown and sate Lawton are
the co,ordinaters of the program,

POtelltlt0 to reach out to people
across• the county who live alone or
-are dliabled.
It also serves to fulfill the
homemakers' mandate of keeping
people independent and in their own
homes,
In a nutshell, the telephone
reassurance program is a system
through which a daily call is
provided to elderly, ill or disabled
persons at an appointed time, seven
days a week.
These calls, made by volunteers,
will make sure the client is all right
and secondly, give him dr her the

Two former. former National. Hockey
League players will be the special
guests at the first meeting later this _
month of a new group forming in
Wingham.
The group-- Boys' Night Out — is
for Christian men of all ages,
according, to one of the organizers,'
David Martin. He says the group
hopes to attraCt.Christians from all
denominations as well as some men
who do not attend church on a
regular basis, but have an interest in
learning more about Christianity.
The first meeting will be held
Tuesday, Sept, 27 at 8 p.m. in St.
Andrew's Presbyterian ClitirCh.
'Martin says the die Organizers
are very excited to have Dean
Prentice, who played for 22 seasons
in the NHL with five teams, and
former Minnesota .North Star Dave
Cressman as the guest speakers.

The two now live in the Kitchener
area and are involved in the group
"Hockey Ministry". This group ^C
ex -NHL players is different fro, -
one headed by Lucknow native
Henderson, but the ,two
organizations do, at times, work
together.
Mr. Martin notes that most of the
local churches have groups for
women, but there appears to be a
need for a group strictly for men. He
sees it as an opportunity for both
fellowship and education in an
environment that is net threatening
for someone trying to find out more .

The calls are limited to four or five
minutes, but_,if the clients would like
longer coisations, it may be
possible to put them in touch with
each other or refer them to the
friendly -visitor program.
Ms. Brown says she already has
several volunteers lined up, but is
looking for more. She suggests that
it is a .good job for a person who
works in an office or other shut-ins'
as it takes just a few moments each
day.
Although the program will be
running throughout Huron County,
no long distance 'calling will be
required. And, Ms. Brown adds, it is
completely free of charge.
Those wanting more information,
are asked to telephone the Town and
Country Homemakers at 357-3222
and ask for Ms. Brown or Ms.

ARENA COLLAPSED
Tragedy struck the town of
Listowel in February of 1959 when,
the arenwroof collapsed from weight
of snow, killing seirth-yonngsters
and the town's recreational director.
The town received the sympathy of
thousands of_Canadians in all walks
of life, from the prime minister to
the most humble. Towns and cities
everywhere were checking con-
ditions in their own arenas, hoping to
avert a similar tragedy.
