SQUIRTS WIN WOAA — The Wingham Squirts have won the WOAA championship crown for the first
time in 24 years, defeating Mount Forest three games straight in the finals. Members and coaches of the

Wingham's PeeWee soccer team,
Pegasus, came up against the top
team in the Saugeen Soccer League Jr
last Tuesday evening, Kincardine.
Wingham played a superb game
with excellent goaltending by Steve
Wittig and a very strong defence.
The final score was 1-1. Chris Pat- f

Ontario Sqhit tournament held

The local lads 'defeated Mount
Forest three games straight to take
the WOAA honors for the first time
in 24 years.
In the regular WOAA seaon, the
boys. played a total of 14 games, —
winning 11 and kising just three.
The team played Mitchell in the
semifinals, a best two -out -of -three
series and beat them two games
straight by scores of 13-2 and 10-1.
Then, they entered the final series
with Mount Forest in a best three -
out -of -five series, winning 7-4, 9-4
and 10-1 to earn the WOAA crown.
The boys played a total of 19
games over the season, winning 16'
and losing three. They scored 250
runs, as compared to 84 runs scored
against them.
The team entered the Walton
Squirt tournament last month and
brought home of the Walton
Invitational Squirt Tournament 'B'
Trophy. The boyS lost -the first game
to Cargill 8-6, then defeated Belmore
4-3 and the host Walton team 31-0.
OASA PLAY
The Wingham OASA team com-
peted in the Goderich tournament
uly 22 and 23, defeating Downie 7-3
in the first game, but were knocked
ut by Goderich 13-8 in the next
match -up.
In the OASA playoffs, Wingham
aced Clavering in a best two -out -of-
hree series with Clavering winning
the first game 17-6. However, the

to be.
The boys received -their finalist
pennant and beautiful OASA crests
which stand for a lot of good ball
playing and determination from.all
the boys on our OASA 'team.
Out of the eight OASA games
played by Wingham, the team won
five, lost three, scored 82 -rung and •
had 67 scored against it.

Jeremy Creeden, Neil Mowbray and
Travis Baier.
The coach is George Patterson,
while the assistant coaches are
Wilson Daw and Bob Sangster.
