Morris council awards contract for sidewalks Morris council awarded the contract for construction of sidewalks in Belgrave and Walton to TEN Builders Inc. of Dublin at a recent meeting. The total contract price of $28,275 includes $22,050 for the Walton sidewalks and $6,225 for Belgrave. Council also will ask the Ontario Ministry of Transportation for additional funds to complete the Walton sidewalk project as a 50 per cent grant is available for sidewalks along a county road. County plowing match scheduled for this week The 61st annual Huron County Plowing Match gets underway this Thursday, rain or shine, says Peter Hallahan of RR 1, Belgrave, first vice president .__of. -..._.the ... Hinran. Plowmen's Association. The match will be held at the farm of Huron -Bruce MP Murray Cardiff on Con. 5-6 of Grey Township, one mile and a quarter east of County Road 12. This match is a pre- requisite for those . hoping to compete at the International. Plowing Match, being held this.year in Perth County. The two-day match gets underway this Thursday, Sept. 1, at Coaching Day, leading up to Friday's serious competition, says Mr. Hallahan. Coaching Day includes a junior match at 2 p.m., but is mainly a chance for plowmen to brush up on their skills and to take advantage of the expert, • free advice given by the judges, he adds. Friday's events include classes for just about everyone, from those staged just for fun to the classes which will determine Huron's junior and senior championships, as well as which juniors will represent Huron at the IPM. Foremost among these are the five classes open to all Huron County juniors who have not reached their 20th birthdays, says Mr. Hallahan. Two of these young people will be chosen on the basis of their total scores to compete as junior champion 'plowman at the IPM, as well as for the IPM's annual two- year scholarship to one of ' antario's agricultural. colleges__ ._..... Several present and former champion plowmen will demon- strate their skills in competition at the Huron County match, including Paul Dodds of RR 1, Seaforth, 1986 -Canadian Junior Champion and Bill Fotheringham of RR 2, Seaforth, -winner of the 1986 IPM scholarship. The highlight of the evening will be the presentation of the Rural Leadership Awards to local people for their outstanding leadership and contribution to the rural community and agriculture in Huron County. Various guest speakers will be talking about different aspects of agri-business at the dinner, to be held Monday, Oct. 3, at 7 p.m, in the Clinton Legion Hall.` The Huron County Junior Farmers will welcome nominations for the Rural Leadership Awards from individuals or organizations until Friday, Sept. 16.
