Wingham girl wins
two provincial titles
Lynda Harkness of Wingham's
Maitland Athletics Club represented
the town very well by winning two
gold medals at the Ontario Track
and Field Championships held at
Windsor Aug. 13 and 14.
On Saturday, despite the hot ana
sultry weather, Harkness demon-
strated top-notch form in the Ban-
tam girls' shot put event. She
became Ontario champion on the
strength of her best toss, 10.23
metres
Pouring rain on Sunday presented
a different sort of difficulties during
the discus -throwing event, forcing
most of the competitors to throw
from a standing position for better
balance and implement control.
Harkness competed again with
determination and won another
closely -contested provincial title
with a standing throw of 29.66m.
With this meet Harkness con-
cludes a.highly-successful com-
petitive.seasonas well -as graduating
from the Bantam age group with
first-class honors.
