tapping with some tunes on the
harmonica. Gordon Wall's Old Tyme
Music dropped by between "gigs" to
play a few numbers. Buret
MacDonald travelled all the way
from Ashfield Township to introduce
us to a relatively new instrument

We thank Naoyuki Matsuoka for
his thoughtful donation to the
Wingham Library, a series of five
books on Japanese Lifestyle. Mr.
Matsuoka is a teacher in Japan and
is currently in Wingham on an
exchange program. Informative and
visually appealing, these books are
recommended to those wanting to
learn about other cultures.
We are pleased to add the
following new books to our
collection:
Ambitious children who enjoy
competitive activities might want to
refer to All the Best Contests for
Kids by the Bergstroms. This book
provides a wealth of facts on
contests throughout the United
States and gives details on where
and how to enter.
Ann M. Martin, author of the
Babysitter Club Books, adds another

Lisbeth and Daniel Schorr have
written a thought-provoking study
titled Within Our Reach, Breaking
the Cycle of Disadvantage. The
authors talk of today's children as
growing up amid poverty, despair
and family disintegration. With the
right amount of energy and
successful programing, obstacles to
progress can be turned into
opportunities. "The drama of
success chronicled here," writes
Ms. Schorr, "is not a drama of
beating the odds, it is a drama of
changing the odds."
Ice cream and a hot, hazy day
seem to go hand-in-hand. Ben and
Jerry (Cohen and Greenfield) have
co-authored Homemade Ice Cream

way. The bock's"'.eolorful illu-
