mvcAretpgnizes eight
for conservation practice..
For their contribution . to
conservation work, eight people
were recognized by the Maitland
Valley Conservation Authority at the
MVCA semi-annual meeting last
week in Wroxeter.
• Awards of Distinction were pre-
sented to Hohnesville-area farmer
Donald Lobb and Lorne Murray of
Maryborough Township, while Con-
servatioit Certificates were awarded
to the Huron County Board of
Education,. Howick Central School
teacher Hill Raynard, Clinton -area
farmer Elmer Trick, Walton -area
farmer Ken Glanvffie, BelgraVe-
area farmer Gerry Jaretzke, and
Colborne Township farmer David
Kilgour.
Mr. Murray is a long-time mem-
ber of both the MVCA and Grand
River Conservation Authority,
joining the MVCA in 1967 and
serving as its chairman from 1976 to
1979. He also represented the
authority on the provincial chair-
man's committee and served as
chairman of that committee for one
year. .
Mr. Lobb was described by
presenter Carman Kaye, MVCA vice
chairman, as one who led the way in
advancing the cause of soil and
water conservation in Huron County
and throughout Ontario.
In 1980 Mr. Lobb began travelling
to conservation field days in Michi-

techniques a d also encouraged his
neighbors thd agri-business repre-

1982, he nd a small group of
fanners from the area carried out a
number of no -till planting trials.
Later that year they organized the
first Conservation Day in Huron
County.
He was instrumental in organizing
the Huron Soil and Water Con-
servation District, a grassroots body
designed to oversee the Joint Soil
and Water Conservation Program,
and continues to be a strong force in
the soil conservation movement.
Presented to Chairman John
Jewett on behalf of the HCBE, the
board's certificate is in recognition
of support for the MVCA's
conservation education program at
the Wawanosh Nature Centre.
During 1987 the board sponsored a
professitlal development day on the
topic of outdoor education. More
than 300 teachers attended the event
— including a tour of the nature
centre facilities — which greatly
