For hundreds of young Oris every
summer, Camp Keewaydin at
Arnberley provides a chance to meet
others and learn new things.
This is the 40th anniversary of the
Brownie -Guide camp on Lake
Huron, which has opened its doors to
thousands of youngsters over the
years.
At Camp Keewaydin, the spirit_ of
co-operation is strong, with even the
youngest girls chipping in to ,do
chores such as dishes, making beds
and cleaning .the cabins. It's all done
cheerfully and quickly.
Mary Vair of Belgrave, district
Guide commissioner, was in charge
of the craft camp last week at the
site. She says girls come from as far
away as Waterloo, Stratford and
London to the area camp. However,
just as many of the youngsters are
local, coming from places such as
Wingham, Clifford and Belgrave.
The girls apply to attend Camp
Keewaydin, explains Mrs. Vair and
choose which Camp they wish to take
part in, For example, in addition to
the craft camp, there is a nature
camp, Brownie friendship,
photography, swimming and canoe
camps.
The young campers range in age
from nine to 15 with up to 1-50
children at Camp Keewaydin each
week.
There is a Guide leader, as well as
junior leaders and a cook at each
camp, Mrs. Vair adds. The junior
leaders act as ".big sisters" to the
younger girls, comforting them
when a bit of homesickness sets in or
helping them with their activities.

stuffed rabbits and Christmas tree
figures and decorations. They even
